Police say the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of 23-year-old Brent Little at Wiradjuri Reserve remain unclear.
Late yesterday, crime scene tape on a small tree was the only indication a land and water search had unfolded at the weekend.
Just hours earlier, Sydney-based police divers entered the river for a final time, before packing up their equipment about 12.30pm.
The team of four scoured the water for a number of hours after arriving in the city about the same time on Saturday.
Members of the man's family - including two people believed to be his parents - watched on as they carried out numerous sweeps of the water.
The low level of the river meant the divers spent most of their time wading through it.
But, their focus yesterday morning turned to deeper water opposite the spot where Mr Little is believed to have entered the river.
No trace was found.
On Saturday, at least a dozen volunteers from the State Emergency Service (SES) and Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA) members searched along the banks and surrounding bushland.
Members of those agencies will conduct boat patrols of the river each morning and afternoon over coming days.
Mr Little was last seen about 8pm on Friday when he entered the river - fully clothed - just downstream of the boat ramp at the reserve.
Police were told a woman - who was with him at the time - heard Mr Little struggle in the water and, despite an attempt, was unable to assist.
He hasn't been seen since.
The disappearance sparked a land and water search - which included door-knocking locations where he might have been staying.
Wagga police duty officer Inspector Peter Robertson told The Daily Advertiser on Saturday they had received little information from the woman, which meant the exact circumstances surrounding Mr Little's disappearance were unclear.
"We don't have a 100 per cent guarantee that he is in the river but our other inquiries in town (on Saturday morning), at locations we believe he has either been staying at or being frequenting lately, have turned up negative," Inspector Robertson said.
"We've spoken to other members of his family (and) other acquaintances and friends of his and no one has seen him since (Friday) afternoon."
"We are investigating all possibilities, at the moment it is a possibility that he is in the river."
Late yesterday, no further details were available from police.
Mr Little is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 190cm tall, of medium build and with light brown hair.
Anyone who sees him, or has information about his whereabouts, should contact police immediately via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
