Colleges Respond to Opioid Crisis
With 156 confirmed overdose deaths in Luzerne County last year and fatal overdoses on the rise statewide,
Luzerne County Community College has responded by developing a program designed to
prepare students for work in the drug and alcohol recovery field. The diploma will be especially useful for students who want to become certified recovery specialists.

New Series of "Hope is Dope" Classes Begin in April at BC3
The "Hope is Dope" classes at Butler County Community College are open to those in opioid recovery, family or friends of those who suffer from opioid addiction, support group personnel, treatment providers, educators or concerned community members. Using science and easily understood analogies, this class provides insights into an alternative treatment plan that offers a clear pathway to recovery.

College Makes Life-Saving Narcan Available on Campus
Narcan nasal spray, an opioid reversal medicine, is now available to the public and included in automated external defibrillator cabinets on Delaware County Community College campuses, enabling anyone who is nearby an overdose victim to potentially save their life. Delaware County Community College is the first college campus in Delaware County that the Heroin Task Force has partnered with to provide Narcan for their AED cabinets.
