Amarillo Community Prayer Breakfast

Olympic gold medalist Brandon Slay will speak Tuesday at the 12th annual Amarillo Community Prayer Breakfast.

Serving lines open at 6 a.m. Tuesday in the Amarillo Civic Center North Exhibit Hall, 401 S. Buchanan St.

Slay won gold in freestyle wrestling in the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney. He now lives in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he is the head wrestling coach at the Olympic Training Center.

Admission is $5; table sponsorships are available for $150.

Nutcracker Ball

The Lone Star Ballet Guild will mark the 25th anniversary of its Nutcracker Ball on Saturday.

The ball, set for 7 p.m. Saturday in the Amarillo Civic Center Heritage Ballroom, 401 S. Buchanan St., will feature a seated dinner, presentation of the season's ushers and usherettes, dancing to music by Insufficient Funds, a silent auction, holiday shopping and a raffle for a hot tub.
