Everything You Could Want to Know about Excalibur's $4 Million Food Court Renovation

Eater Vegas stands corrected. The new food court going in at Excalibur will not be called Sword & Spoon as previously reported. Instead, Jason Shkorupa, vice president food and beverage at the Luxor and Excalibur, says the massive food court will have no theme, much like the rest of the renovations going on at the Excalibur.

And the price tag on this renovation? A whopping $4 million. Phase one plans to open Nov. 7 with Pick Up Stix, Popeyes, Cinnabon, Hot Dog On A Stick and Tropical Smoothie Cafe and adds 170 seats to the area and 100 to 150 new jobs. "We've done a ton of market research," Shkorupa says. "People have a desire for recognizable brands that they have near their homes."

In the midst of it all, Big Chill, a bar with draft beers and cocktails. "It's probably the only bar laid in the middle of a food court, " Shkorupa says.

Shkorupa says the 12,000-square-foot expansion will bring the food court up to at least 25,000 square feet, making it the largest food court in a casino resort.

Once the new section of the food court opens, the old section gets its own makeover. Schlotzsky's replaces Quizno's and Yogurtland takes the place of Coldstone Creamery. Pizza Hut, Auntie Anne's Pretzels, Popcornopolis, McDonald's and Krispy Kreme remain. Phase two opens in time for New Year's Day.

Phase three of the renovation brings new flooring and walls in the common area along with a makeover for the Excalibur Buffet, completed by March 2013.

And the castle theme goes away. "We're trying not to beat the theme to death," Shkorupa says.
