His ar tworks have been so popular that they have also been applied to many fashion items such as bags, T- s h i r t s , c a n v a s s h o e s , belts and suitcases which they’re pretty suitable for, as you can see here. The ar tworks have an adorable naivety to them, and the style is reminiscent of the circular elements and colours of the famous ar twork - The Kiss, by Gustav Klimt. Mauro Benedetti was born in 1947 in the Maremma, a little known national park area which has been described as a magical land with a fascinating history that dates back to the Etruscans. There is a ver y relaxed pace of life there, and some spectacular views.

Mauro has spent much of his life residing in a farmhouse between Capalbio and the Argentario. He says that he is inspired by the green nature, the sea, the horses and animals. Since Mauro speaks only Italian and no English at all, we have translated the following passage where he explains his approch to his ar t in his typically flowerly and romanitic language.

ARTFULY: CONTEMPORARY ORIGINAL ART

As a painter I have always thought about having my dreamy inner world, losing ver y often t h e r e l a t i o n s h i p w i t h r e a l i t y. A l m o s t a c o n t i n u o u s dream that I live in, the real fact made up of images, emotions and sounds. And here it was easy to implement objects, things, a symbolic character, that resulted in the abstract, h e r m e t i c a l l y, i n c a p a b l e a n d s o t r a n s i e n t . T h e m e m o r y that remains difficult to achieve in real life, it was easy to put ino paint, as real life is is suspended without bond, weight and substance, Life seems to have little impor tance, the thoughts are fleeting, I live not to live, love passes as falling leaves swept away in the wind. As always, we are happy to receive enquiries on the ar tists work, translating as necessar y and providing smooth, headache-free concierge deliver y o f a r t w o r k s g l o b a l l y. As a young ar tist, he developed his drawing and taught himself to use pastels. Continuing Into his young adult life, he joined the navy to see the world, but life on board ship didn’t allow him to paint, so he became proficient at ballpoint pen drawing. After naval service, he attended Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida, where he made his home, and for 25 years he worked in adver tising ar t and as an architectural illustrator and mural painter. He painted for himself after hours and on weekends.

For the rare occasion when a per fect scene presents itself, he will contact the photographer for permission. Once the idea is roughed out he will enlarge or reduce various elements and position then within the composition, which at this point is small, about 8x 10 or so. The next step is to do a line tracing of it, mount a copy of that onto a panel, and add the colors, noting each one. Then the tracing gets enlarged for the actual painting, where it is transferred to a primed panel. Richard glazes with acr ylics on the smooth panel sur face which allows for greater depth and subtle effects. Usually he just uses one color at a time over another, using different applications for cer tain effects

Regarding the meaning of ar t, he says ‘Instead of making a huge effor t to understand a work of ar t that leaves us mystified, maybe we should analyse why we don’t understand or appreciate it, and learn from whatever answers arise. We a s k e d R i c h a r d , ‘What are your thoughts on the recent shredding o f B a n k s y ’s p a i n t i n g ? What is your personal grasp of the message behind this act?’ He responded - I believe it was a publicity stunt to prove a point: that his ar t is not static, it can self-destruct and that is par t of his creative process. The bidder didn’t pay just for the painting, he paid for the entire process.

Va h e s a y s t h a t w h a t sets him apar t from other ar tists is his knowledge of composition in classical music and in fact he names his ar tworks after famous classical pieces although he is not influenced by the pieces of music that the paintings are titled under. He has been per forming music on the Piano and composing since he was eight years old, however his sister was the recognised visual ar tist of the family which is why he has only immersed himself in creating abstract ar tworks for the past few years.
