Dog Friendly Drive

If you’re the type of traveller who likes to bring your four-legged friend along for the ride, listen up! After digging around, we’ve put together a list of places to stay and play that are pet-friendly, welcoming all members of the family – furry or not.

Toowoomba is our dog-friendly destination of choice. It’s a 90-minute drive from Brisbane – so it won’t be long until your canine in tow can stretch their legs. We recommend stopping off at the Picnic Point Parklands, where dogs are welcome on leash. The parklands are perched high on the crest of the Great Dividing Range, overlooking the Lockyer Valley.

Once you’ve appreciated the breathtaking views, it’ll probably be time for a cuppa! Quite a few Toowoomba eateries welcome well-behaved hounds – like Park House Cafe on Margaret Street. You can sit on the footpath and enjoy morning tea or lunch with your best friend at your feet. And if you feel like you need to run off some calories, there’s a great off-leash dog area right across the street in beautiful Queens Park.

Only 5 minutes’ drive from Queens Park is the grand and gorgeous Vacy Hall Heritage Guesthouse. Now we know what you’re probably thinking, “Dog friendly digs at a heritage guest house? Surely not!” Well, we’re happy to report otherwise. While guests with pets can’t stay in the main house, they are welcome in the character-filled Gardener’s Cottage on the grounds of Vacy Hall. There’s a queen-sized bedroom downstairs and upstairs, an attic room with double and single beds. The cottage is also fully self-contained and air-conditioned, with free WiFi.

After a good night’s sleep, you and your furry best friend should be ready for a fun day of activities. If your pup loves to play fetch, then let us introduce you to the dynamic world of Disc Dogs! It’s a sport where dogs and their human disc throwers compete in events such as distance catching and choreographed tricks. The Garden City has one of the biggest memberships in the state for this emerging sport. Maximum Air Disc Dogs is the Toowoomba chapter of Canine Disc. Owners and their pets are welcome to join the club for one of their weekly courses where they’ll teach owners how to correctly throw a Frisbee as well as work with you and your pet to pull off some impressive tricks.

We hope we’ve inspired you to get out and about with your pet so you can enjoy a Great Day Out together!
