Lady Gaga & Me

You probably wouldn't think I'd have anything in common with Lady Gaga, but it seems we share an obsession with iced matcha green tea lemonade. Tried one the other day at Starbucks as a way to deal with a very hot, almost summer day in Austin. Wow. I loved it and have been making them at home ever since. The only downside I now is that I'm using Simply Lemonade and it has a lot of sugar. I need to start making my own lemonade with fresh lemons and stevia.

Summer Solstice

Yesterday went pretty well eating wise but no exercise other than keeping up with my 20 month old grandson. The scale was good to me this morning. Feel fortunate to start seeing results right away. Thought I'd kick the reboot off with a revisit to the South Beach Diet since I had good results years ago. I'm not really doing that though and am just sort of free styling it by reducing carbs and no alcohol.

This image was taken several years ago on a trip mainly to London. Visiting Stonehenge was the highlight of that trip -- one that had many highlights. Starting to feel a bit of wanderlust...

Quotable - destination happiness

"I used to believe that there was a destination happiness. With the right person - with the right job - finishing the next project - all those things would bring me permanent happiness. They did bring me many moments of happiness but now I know that life is one day at a time and you just have to work with what is in front of you. Don't visit the past too often or imagine a fantasy future just be where you are now." Source

Keep Calm and Reboot

Hmm, looks like the plants have died, and man, is it dusty in here. I'm back. Rebooting today. Stay tuned.

Quotable - We Have a Choice

We Have a Choice

When someone harms us, they create the cause of their own suffering. They do this by strengthening habits that imprison them in a cycle of pain and confusion. It’s not that we are responsible for what someone else does, and certainly not that we should feel guilty. But when they harm us, we unintentionally become the means of their undoing. Had they looked on us with loving-kindness, however, we’d be the cause of their gathering virtue.
What I find helpful in this teaching is that what’s true for them is also true for me. The way I regard those who hurt me today will affect how I experience the world in the future. In any encounter, we have a choice: we can strengthen our resentment or our understanding and empathy. We can widen the gap between ourselves and others or lessen it.

keeping it real

Keeping a web log for my experiences in becoming fitter and healthier has helped. It's a combination of accountability and support from others. It's also an opportunity to learn from others and to share what I've learned that's helped me reach my goals. And, I suppose keeping up a wellness blog is an indicator of current commitment to the cause. Somewhere along the line, I forgot about why I even put effort into keeping Fitville alive.

Ok, so what's up in Fitville? I've drifted a little out of my goal weight range. Haven't ridden my bike since early September. Thinking tomorrow may be the day for a bike ride. Tomorrow begins a new month and that means a fresh start to tracking my walking and riding goals. Seems when I meet them or come close, I have no problem staying right where I want to be weight-wise.

On the food side of things, I've been pondering all the info out there about the importance of breakfast. Is it really the most important meal of the day? Doesn't it seem like breakfast is the meal that's easiest for portion control? Does it matter what you eat as much as when you eat it? Are eggs good or bad? Or neutral?

Do you have any strong beliefs about breakfast?

Back on Track

I'm back. Seems I went off the rails back in September when my cat died and when I got sick. It'll be good to get back into the swing of things here in Fitville.

strong legs

Had a great first-ride-of-the-month today. Rode 25 miles but really felt like I could go for a half century. But, alas, my husband was not feelin' it today. Oh well...on our last ride together I actually bonked and was lucky to finish 20 miles. Someday, we'll achieve synchronicity on the bike trail.

 Happy Friday!
