Prone to snoozing off once the in-flight safety video comes on?

That may be about to change, thanks to a new approach by IcelandAir. The airline’s new in-flight safety video ticks all the safety boxes first, of course – but what’s interesting is where it goes after that. From 0.38 onwards, the video really takes off, whiskingits star passenger right out into the wonderful Icelandic wilderness.

Staying safe has rarely looked so intriguing.

As the video progresses, emergency lighting is compared to the northern lights. Assuming the brace position becomes a calm and collected manoeuvre by the lulling shores of a lake. An evacuation is a jump from the top of a waterfall into a bracing lake.

The safety video, which was written and produced by Íslenska Ad Agency and directed by Pegasus, was filmed on locations around Iceland, including Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, Þakgil canyon, Fjaðrárgljúfur gorge, Þórsmörk National Park and Eyjafjöll, close to Eyjafjallajökull Glacier.

Gudmundur Oskarsson, Icelandair’s Director of Marketing, says: “In our new safety video, we decided to have Iceland’s landscape perform as a refreshing and beautiful backdrop to the traditional and important safety message presented to all our passengers. We are very proud of the outcome.”

Icelandair offers service to Iceland from Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham. Connections through Icelandair’s hub at Keflavik International Airport are available to several gateways in North America.
