Campus Safety Club: Ensuring Safe Campuses
Did you know that at least 3 in every 10 campus ladies suffer gender-based violence?

Learning institutions are supposed to be safe havens for women who are seeking knowledge and not a place where students are abused and their rights violated. Yet, violence against young women in universities is so bad that fear has been instilled that nobody wants to talk about what is going on including the administration.

College women are being forced to have abortion by their boyfriends, and often unsafe abortion done in the backstreet clinics.

In as much as several laws have been enacted to protect victims of sexual violence and assaults such as the Protection Against Domestic Violence 2015 and the Sexual Offences Act 2006; getting information from the university administration is difficult and nobody, including the students wants to comment for fear.

That is why as part of the 16 Days of Activism, The Campus Lady Magazine is committing to promoting Safe Campuses. We are bringing together college women from across Kenyan universities to form "TCL Safe Campus" Societies whose mandate will include providing awareness against GBV on campuses and ensuring that any college woman faced with GBV or any other kind of assault accesses the right help. Additionally, these societies will work to promote safe campuses across Kenyan universities by developing policy frameworks to be adopted by their respective campuses to ensure the safety of college women across Kenya.
