Why this petition matters

Started by Save Hackney Wick

Urgent: this is the final attempt to stop the Mayor of London's imminent demolition of Vittoria Wharf and get the Mayor, Balfour Beatty and LLDC to rethink the two bridges between Fish Island / Hackney Wick and the Olympic park. For a year we have asked to Mayor to revise his plans and conform with #good growth. His recent Review of the bridges is flawed and doesn't justify the plans.

The demolition of Vittoria Wharf - one of the last historic industrial buildings on the Olympic waterways - to build an unnecessary footbridge H16 is against the Mayor's policy of supporting culture and protecting creative workspace. Instead, retain a rare historic building and the low-cost creative workspace as a legacy for London. The Mayor owns the building, originally CPO'd for the Olympics.

Don’t build road bridge H14, with the loss of the current footbridge. Think about the dangers of air pollution and the consequences of car-centred development in the Olympic park. Keep Fish Island's healthy streets as a benefit to all.

Design a smarter new masterplan for the area. Build more greener, future-proofed solutions, community spaces, fewer roads, not the old dinosaur development that is planned.

Save Hackney Wick and thousands of objectors including Mayor of Tower Hamlets John Biggs, Rushanara Ali MP and cross party Assembly Members Caroline Russell, Caroline Pidgeon, Nicky Gavron, Andrew Boff, Navin Shah have asked the Mayor to revise his thinking.

Petitioning Balfour Beatty (Leo Quinn) , Places for People, (David Cowans), Mayor of London Sadiq Khan - joint developers of the bridges and the adjacent Olympic land, Sweetwater. Also Jules Pipe (Deputy Mayor for development), Justine Simons (Deputy Mayor for Culture), Peter Hendy (Chairman London Legacy Development Corporation)
