AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program designed to build capacity in organizations that bring individuals and communities out of poverty. The Serve Philadelphia VISTA Corps is a cohort of VISTA members who serve full-time for one year or 10-weeks in City departments creating sustainable solutions to poverty through indirect service.
This application is for departments interested in receiving Summer Associate VISTAs. This year we are prioritizing Summer Associate VISTA member teams of 2-5 VISTAs who will be collectively working on a specific project together. Additionally, there will be an emphasis on providing Summer Associate VISTA Members with civic engagement tools throughout their term of service.
Summer Associates serve from June - August 2019, full-time (40 hrs/wk) and receive a living allowance of approximately $33/ day.
Projects for summer associates can be direct or indirect service. Priority project areas for summer 2019 are:
•
Preventing summer learning loss among low-income youth
•
Providing meals to hungry children
•
Supporting youth substance abuse prevention efforts in low-income communities
However, any project that has outcomes directly tied to alleviating poverty will be considered.
All Serve Philadelphia VISTA members are centrally supported by the Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service (OCEVS) and federally supported by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).
