Security B-Side Puerto Rico Call For Papers 2016
What is Security B-Sides Puerto Rico?

Security B-Sides Puerto Rico #BSidesPR was the first community driven serious InfoSec conference in the island fully educational and not vendor biased in 2013. Now in 2014 we will stay focused on one thing, the growth of the InfoSec community in Puerto Rico through the learning experience.

What is Security B-Sides?

Each BSides is a community-driven framework for building events for and by information security community members.  The goal is to expand the spectrum of conversation beyond the traditional confines of space and time.  It creates opportunities for individuals to both present and participate in an intimate atmosphere that encourages collaboration. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from participants. It is where conversations for the next-big-thing are happening.

What's new?

In 2014 Security B Sides Puerto Rico's goal is to integrate the Hardware, Developer, Offensive and Defensive community in one InfoSec summit. This year we will focus on hands on, innovation and competition. BSides makes a difference in Puerto Rico because it is the only non-vendor based security conference in the island promoting information sharing about hot topics in the information security field. #BSidesPR will be a bilingual conference offering talks in both English and Spanish acting as bridge between cultures.

#BSidesPR will be held April 4, 2014 and April 5 for training sessions.

I promise to ensure any and all sources are cited properly and that the original researcher (when applicable) has been consulted and agree to my use of his/her work. *

Sponsorship vs Speaking

Acceptance to speak at Security BSides Puerto Rico is based on the value your talk provides to the conference audience. That decision is made independently from any implied, proposed or agreed upon sponsorship. This helps the conference remain as vendor neutral as a sponsored event can be without losing value to either the sponsors or the merit of the conference itself. In the past employees or representatives of a sponsoring company have been both accepted to speak and rejected from speaking as well as requested to speak. If the only way you can speak/travel/take off work is to represent your employer that's fine, but please keep in mind what Security BSides is about before submitting your talk. The best way you can positively represent your company is by giving an intelligent talk that provides educational value to the audience about some product or concept your employment has given you expertise on. This can be accomplished in many productive ways when focused on the training/engineering/thinking side rather than the sales side. Be prepared to be challenged during and after your talk by the audience. Talks that can stand up to questioning are far more memorable in a positive way than ones that can't. Hands on education of something that works amazingly well is encouraged, but also expect some unsolicited advice if it does not
