Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia (TCS) initiated its River Terrapin Conservation Project in Kemaman, Terengganu in 2011. The chronic consumption of terrapin eggs in the past decades has caused the decline of the population in the river. Together with the local communities, we camp by the riverbank every nesting season, collect all the eggs and incubate them in Kg. Pasir Gajah, Kemaman.

To date, we have saved more than 4,700 terrapin eggs from human consumption, and released more than 3,000 head-started river terrapins into the Kemaman River. This calendar highlights our terrapin conservation efforts in Kemaman, as well as the ecological roles that they play and the threats that they face in their habitats.

We also thank Joel Sartore/National Geographic Photo Ark for allowing us to use his photo of the male river terrapin on the cover of the calendar.
