Colombian Cartel King captures his Queen!

I actually really liked this book. It’s funny how books and movies can make almost anyone likable. Even a completely brutal Columbian Cartel leader, named Victor that lords over his people and keeps everyone in line through fear and retribution. He is not portrayed as a guy who lets the little things go. Like when a pick-pocket tries to grab his wallet and disrespects him. He cuts off the guys hand in the middle of a busy marketplace in order to show everyone what happens to people who steal from him.

When Victor finds out one of his long time employees has stolen cocaine from him and is selling on the streets, he doesn’t care that the man has been employed with him since long before his father died and his father trusted the man, he also doesn’t care what the man’s reasons were. Though when he finds out the man has a daughter, he decides he will take her as compensation for the crime. Victor still plans to kill the man for stealing product from him and probably the daughter too after he finishes with her.

The storyline about the daughter and what she has been through and is going through is very good as well. She has learned to hate Victor her entire life because he is a brutal criminal and because her father works twelve hour days for very little pay. However, Victor is a very handsome man and she finds herself attracted to him and he to her from the start.

The romance is smoking hot and out of the park steamy from the get go. Victor is a dominant alpha male who is jealous and possessive. There are quite a few unexpected twists and turns, which I won’t give away. I’m not quite sure how she could love him and get over some of the things he has done. Though she wasn’t always up front with him either. I really liked the story and the characters. It felt real and gritty and not always happy and nice which is appropriate for the world of the cartel.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

Holy mother of all clichès!!

That's right! This book was a epic hodgepodge of all the clichès ever known to criminal-hero-novel-reading womankind!

I'm keeping this short and simple!

Victor Cordero is the King of the freakin' Colombia (this shit alone is mentioned about 250 times in this book -- that's minus 1 star alone!!) and on his free time, he is just a cartel's boss (boring, I know!)

He is hard, ruthless and cruel but only until our heroine appears!!

Sofiá Montero is the daughter of one of Victor's men who was caught stealing from him.
Now, we must know this that Victor never ever forgives anyone who steals from him, so after he finds this man and learns he has a daughter, he wants her as payment too.

Long story short, Sofiá goes to Victor, sasses him, curses him to hell, resists his charm, blah blah blah and eventually falls in love with him.

There are other elements in the story, which I don't find worthy of mention but I'll do it anyway- Sofiá has a heart problem, no other detail is given except that she requires medication and transplant for it. So, now we know why the father was stealing.

This book was voted BOTM in one of groups in GR and I honestly expected it to be amazing, but it turned out to be mediocre. The writing style was good and gripping even if the dialogues were ridiculous at times.

I do not wish to trash this book because it was actually good for most of the people. Victor is an alpha through and through. It maybe that I've read so many crime romance now that my expectations went a tad higher than normal. I don't know. Maybe it was just me :-\

I just wish that this book had more...

wow this book is perhaps one of the best Mafia books i had ever read. it's violent and raw, with some details of torture.

i like the consistency of Victor's character, he's pretty much an asshole from the start to the end of the book, but he definitely has his way of making readers drawn to him. being cold and ruthless, he doesn't asks or begs, he takes.
For Sofía, she's rather feisty and brave but there were instances where you see a hint of her innocence and naivety.

there were a few scenes that were unforgettable (to me) and one of my favourite (and probably the hottest) part was definitely the piano scene. having played piano for so many years of my life, i never had i shall make it my life mission to have it accomplished one day.

however, one particular part didn't sit well with me.

lastly, Sofia and Victor are hot. you would fall in love with the Diablo and his juguete. i love how Victor's darkness and coldness managed to balance with Sofia's young innocence.
also, do take note of trigger warnings (esp rape).

This has been in my kindle for a while and decide to read it and I really enjoyed it. Nothing like bring a Cartel King to his knees like a feisty woman paying for the crimes of her father's sin.

Victor Cordero has inherit the kingdom in Columbia from his father and been groomed to be sadistic & cruel with no feelings due to a women betrayal. Which he vows to NEVER fall again, as we all know never say never. Sofia Montero is sweet and young and have her whole life ahead of her and decides she wants to study music in America and get the scholarship to make this happen. Sofia has one problem her heart, so her papa decides to steals from the one man no one should ever take from the man who rules Columbia with fear & death. Now as payment for my father I am the devil new plaything his juguete. He promises to release me once my payment is over. The problem is when he touch me there is a spark that sizzle through me like no other, I wonder if he can feel it too and I am in denial now about the devils's touch, because I am only here to pay for my father's sin to be the Devils plaything.

sh*t i liked it up to 70% when he freaking let her go with his rival for a misunderstanding knowing well that what he will do to her, she was raped and then he saved her and she forgive him immediately WTF???
Now, i read a lot of dark books ok? i had other rape scenes, but i can't accept a HERO letting her go to his enemies ! NO NO NO, i get it he was hurt but i rather he kept her at distance and in a cell than gave her to a mad man knowing that he will use her. 😣😣😣🤬🤬🤬🤬
Sh*t i usually read the negatives reviews before reading a book, but this time around i didn't. I could save my self of this awful read. At least it wasn't that long.

The book had potential, so much potential - in fact I finished it hoping the author would through with it..
It started off very strong, as strong as the heroine actually and then bam - the inconsistencies start.
We literally have to hear about him being king of the castle and whores just being breakable and disposable - it was mentioned at least 50 times.
Then hero goes all very wish washy on us. He wants to own his whores, use them, do dirty things to them, tear them up from one whole to another, make them cry for it, yada yad, which was fine and dandy for a dark read however he had bigger plans for Sophia, yet her meets her and almost falls to his feet. Lets her disrespect him, he does punish her but not cruelly, at least not the way he planned. So first he wants to own her, slave her up, rip her apart, then the next day he loves her, and wants to show her off, then he is refusing her food, but giving her the medicine she needs to stay alive, yet choking her knowing she has a weak heart and could literally die any moment.
Same goes with Sofia, she started off so strong, and then she falls into his trap, falls in love, yet she hates him. Then Hector? What kind of ruler is Victor really? He cuts Hectors fingers off, yet lets him live? Setting a fine example.... Then there is the english/spanish - stick to a effing language already it's frustrating!
Then finally you think they have it figured out - and he makes her go away with another gangster, who raper and brutalizes her until Victor gets his stick out his ass, and decides to come for his "love" and what does the little weakling do? She runs to him! Jesus what a fuck up that is. Then he forces marriage on her, she gives birth two of his spawns and he knife fucks on the table a door away from them. Sick? That is Victor on a normal, in love with his wife day.
I thought some of the shit took it to far, especially robbing her off breath with a week heart, holing her father head, weak and broken over hers but, fucking her with a knife, and make her lick it? That's a new type of twisted, even for me.

If you are looking for sunshine and rainbows you need to move on. This book is dark and may contain a trigger or two for some. Even though it is dark it is delicious Victor's yummy-ness will have you turning the pages.
Victor takes King of a$$holes to a whole new dark and dirty level. I am not gonna lie I didn't feel like I was gonna care for him. Fyi I freaking love him!!! His dark, demented, and twisted mind is so delicious. He is ruthless and makes no qualms about it. Sofia is young and very naive. With her naivety comes something refreshing. She has no idea what is in store for her when she steps into his clutches. She will do anything for those she loves and prices it by bending. The push pull between the two will leave you breathless.

When I was immersed in this story I did not imagine that I would win my heart.

He knew it was a story with a king of the Colombian cartel who was known as Diablo in person.
Later, as I went deeper, I met Sofia, a girl full of dreams and hopes and with a short-lived life.
One more day everything she believed for her life turns around and Sofia is forced to make a deal with Devil.
Victor known to be the cruel and merciless devil is king of the Cartel that dominates Colombia with iron fists, until an act of betrayal, makes him cross with the young Sofia.
What they didn't realize was that the chemistry between them would be explosive and the more they both hated each other the more the pull pulled them.
They have waged war with each other to find out if what they are willing to have with each other is worth any risk they may have, but life is full of surprises ... Can Sofia and Victor be happy forever?

This is a rarity for me. I felt so compelled to warn readers of this book. If I could give readers/lovers of romance/dark romance a warning it would be No No No! Turn back now! This is no romance.

SPOILER ALERT!

I don't even know where to begin. How did this book leave me feeling? Unfortunately it left me frustrated, sad and angry and so much more.

Victor Cordero, our hero. Columbian Mafia king and drug lord. He's not a nice man... at all. Victor run his empire with an iron fist. He controls everything and everyone around him and answers to no one. He's decided to take the daughter of the man who betrayed him. He craves giving pain, and he's decided to do just that. To break her and use her how he sees fit to do so. And he relishes in his dominance in both business and in pleasure. He couldn't care less how anyone feels about him taking what he wants because he simply can't see past his over inflated ego.

Sofia Montero, our heroine. Sweet naive Sophia Daughter of Hector. She was taken as payment for her father's debt. She suffers from a deadly heart disease and is running out of the required meds to save her life. Sofia has a hidden dark side, craving the dark side of sex and often wishes she could have what she craves.... with Victor.

I don't buy it. Nope, I'm not convinced. I don't believe that even a woman with a submissive nature, or any woman for that matter, would be so forgiving after having a gun shoved down her throat and the trigger pulled. Or, how about having been choked and lifted off her feet, dragged by her hair? What could be worse you ask? What was the final straw that broke this reader's back you might ask? How's this? Victor turns on her and throws her back to a rival wolf who continuously raped, beat and cut her open? She forgives him?

I realize in fiction anything goes but no woman would for a single second forgive him for all he has done to her. It's ludacris and insulting to the reader. I mean, she hated him one minute and then all of a sudden she loved him? Come on!!

Victor is NO HERO in my opinion. Not even an anti-hero. He was so one dimensional. He had absolutely no substance. The only depth he had were the depths of depravity he doled out to Sophia. All he was, was a hot man who ran a Columbian drug cartel who dripped threats, oozed contempt and overdosed the readers with his continuous spewing of vulgarity (I mean, enough already!). Not to mention his thirst for shedding blood.

Victor is a malignant tumor spreading violence and death like butter on bread. There is not one, I repeat, NOT ONE redeeming quality to this man. There is nothing remotely romantic about him or this story. He is nothing but a bloodbath of violence and death waiting to happen. Especially towards anyone who is disloyal or disagrees with him, including the women in his life. His out of control god complex sucked the life right out of me.

This man was void of all compassion and rational thought and in my opinion had a serious personality disorder. At the drop of a hat (or in his case, at the drop of body or even chopped fingers) he quickly changed from a calm in control crime boss to a violent uncontrollable killing machine, a robot. There is no in between. Victor is, for all intents and purposes, an unapologetic ugly monster in three piece suit.

I will admit that in the beginning, I was amused by Victor's over the top alpha male, drug lord, chop chop, bang bang you're dead tendencies. But that amusement quickly soured and morphed into hatred for this man. A man who wasn't happy unless he was killing and destroying people, chopping fingers off, shoving fingers down his victim's throats, carving people's hearts out and feeling almighty powerful.

He had me in the beginning, but then he lost me at shoving a gun into the mouth of our heroine causing her to humiliate herself by peeing herself and Victor never felt an ounce of remorse. His brutal behavior over and over and over got old real freaking quick.

There you have it. My take on The Devil's Plaything by author Dani Rene'. I'd had enough. If I could have I would have given a zero star rating. But I couldn't. This 1-star romance left me disappointed, annoyed and exhausted from all the ranting I did. Will you take it or leave it on the bookshelf? I recommend the latter. But to each his own as they say.

Wasn't sure if I was going to like Victor or not but I ended up LOVING him! I'm not sure who was trying to tame who in this read. Sofia with her sassy attitude, she was strong willed when most would not of been. She was exactly the woman Victor needs by his side. Loved this book, once I picked it up last night I couldn't put it down. Amazing 5 star read

Love and Hate are such strong words....they also cause so much pain

Victor Cordero is brutal, cold blooded and unmerciful with people who lie or stab him in the back. He is the King of Columbia after all. He rules with an iron fist, as did his father before him. He treats women like objects that are only good for one thing, giving him sexual satisfaction. He made a mistake once by falling in love with a woman who got past his emotional barriers. She betrayed him, it did not end well. He vowed never to let his guard down again, that is until Sofia Montero.

Sofia was young and an innocent and was now Victor's property after a man double crossed him. Sofia hates Victor with a passion, but she is also attracted to the danger in Victor's eyes. The chemistry between them could not be denied. I found myself racing through their story to see how everything would turn out in the end. A definite 5 star read!!!

What a delicious, dark and dirty read! I'm a lover of anything Mafia style, and this book delivers it in spades! Victor is called the Devil for many reasons, and when when he takes Sofia, he knows she is a bit of a spitfire, but can he tame her? While Sofia may be payment for a debt, she is definitely a strong woman who will defy him at all times. But for how long? While Victor has plans for Sofia, can he follow thru? These two characters have some major chemistry that just sizzles on the pages! Quite a bit goes on in this story and I couldn't put this book down! Keep in mind this is a dark read and some parts made me wince a bit, but to me, that is a sign of a great book. You will become as invested in these characters as I did, and I loved every word and so will you!

The Devil's Plaything by Dani Rene is the story of Sofía Montero and Victor Cordero.
Victor (37) is a dark and dangerous man know as 'The Devil' but his also the King of the Colombian drug cartel. No one betrays or steals from him and lives to tell the story. So when one of his older employees ends up stealing from him of course he goes into action. But Victor learns the man has a daughter and thinks that the would be the ultimate revenge by taking that daughter. Sofia (18) is a young innocent women who has her own struggles but didn't know of her father's exact work until she became the payment for her father's betrayal. Sofia does know the dark reputation that Victor has but it doesn't stop her from showing her strong side. Victor has never felt such a passion nor connection to anyone like he has for Sofia. This of course makes him more angry with the uncontrollable feelings but where Victor is the devil....Sofia is the angle that may just take him on.
Really enjoyed this dark alpha read. I can't wait to read more from this author!.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 𝟔/𝟓 𝓞𝓿𝓮𝓻𝓪𝓵𝓵 𝓡𝓪𝓽𝓲𝓷𝓰: The Devil's Plaything is best selling author Dani René ’s first dive into the dark mafia world! René has completely outdone herself! From the very first page, I was so enthralled that I devoured TDP in one sitting. René has created a captivating suspenseful storyline that will keep you right on the very edge of your seat! The Devil's Plaything is dark, deviant, and absolutely delicious with enough unpredictable twists and turns that it will leave you breathless trying to figure out what’s going to happen next!

Sofía Montero’s father has worked for the Cordero cartel family for years but he’s done his best to keep Sofía away from that life.

But when Hector puts his trust in the wrong people in order to afford the medication that Sofía so desperately needs, he steals from the most ruthless men in Colombia. The King of Colombia. Victor Cordero.

Victor wants compensation for Hector’s crime, and he’ll take the lovely Sofía as payment.

💙 (𝓗) 𝓗𝓮𝓻𝓸: Victor Cordero, vicious, powerful, merciless. He’s the King of Colombia and he rules with an iron fist. Victor is ruthless and he makes no qualms about it. He demands the respect he is given. Victor is one of those irredeemable characters that you will either love or hate, I loved him! I actually would have liked to have SEEN a bit more of his dark side.

❤️ (𝓱) 𝓗𝓮𝓻𝓸𝓲𝓷𝓮: Sofía Montero is a spitfire! She’s vulnerable but fierce and willing to do anything to protect the ones she loves. Although she’s been conditioned to fear the Cordero’s her whole life, she still stands up to Victor, proving that she’s the type of queen he needs by his side. I thought that Sofía’s illness was a great twist, but I feel like that kind of got waylaid along the way and didn’t meet its full potential.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 𝟓/𝟓 𝓢𝓽𝓮𝓪𝓶 𝓕𝓪𝓬𝓽𝓸𝓻: The steam is off the charts explosive in The Devil’s Plaything! Victor is a very dominant alpha, who’s extremely possessive… I’m sure you can guess exactly how that goes down in the bedroom. I loved these two together. Sofía is Victor’s perfect counterpart. While Victor needs some light in his dark world, Sofía provides that while Victor allows Sofía to explore a bit of the darkness that she craves.

🌪𝓒𝓵𝓲𝓯𝓯𝓱𝓪𝓷𝓮𝓻 𝓦𝓪𝓻𝓷𝓲𝓷𝓰: Nope, no cliffhanger. Sofía and Victor’s story wraps up perfectly in a wonderful epilogue. Although Victor and Sofía’s story is complete, there is another character that I would love to see get his own story… Javier, Victor’s bi-sexual right-hand man… yeah, I am here for Javier’s story!! (Hint, Hint Dani René!) So maybe (keeping my fingers crossed!) we will get a little more from this dark Columbian underworld René has created.

This story is why I love to read and I can't believe it has sat on my TBR for so long.
The Devil's plaything reminds me why I began reading and my quest to find stories that satiate my need and love of fiction.
These heroines who are so fierce and strong while maintaining their femininity and Heroes and anti-heroes who are brought to their knees for these women.
It's always about the journey for me, not the start or end, that brings the satisfaction and enjoyment of words that create a beautiful vision in my mind.
I highly recommend this story!

I love mafia, and this is a really great example of the genre. A compelling, dark read with an implacable anti-hero and a vulnerable heroine who remains strong and resolute against immeasurable odds.

Victor is a particularly dark character, but Sofia shines with enough light to provide a counterbalance. I absolutely adore the relationship between Javier and Victor. Javier’s the kind of friend who dares to say it as it is, and that’s no mean feat, considering the man he is saying it to.

The end, when it comes, is all I could have hoped for, and the epilogue ensures everything is neatly packaged...I do love an informative epilogue.

This is a fabulous, thrilling 5 star read...I received an early copy of this book from the author.

The Devil's Plaything is a dark mafia romance by Dani Rene and is told in dual POV.
"Victor Cordero is the devil. Cruel. Sadistic. Heartless." The King of Colombia is as ruthless as they come and believes that falling in love would make him weak. I fell for Victor Cordero almost immediately. He is cocky and arrogant and a complete asshole yet with every despicable act he committed I found myself falling harder. There was just something about him that had me so enamored with him. Dani Rene sneaks little glimpses of Victor's heart and humanity into this dark brutal story line and each flip of the page felt like I was peeling away Victor's layers to get to the real man underneath.
"Sofia Montero is an angel. Beautiful. Sweet. Intoxicating." Sofia is a fragile young woman who has led a very sheltered life. She's always been a good girl, but she craves the darkness and the ruthless King of Colombia has always intrigued her. Despite her attraction to him she hates him and everything he stands for. Her story is not what you'd expect, and I admired her tenacity and strength in the face of the tragedies she has suffered.
When Sofia's father is caught stealing from Victor, he demands her as payment. Desperate to save her father she agrees to be his prisoner. Both have their own agendas and are determined to beat the other at their own game. What will happen when the devil makes an angel his plaything?
"She's offered herself up as the prey...And what she doesn't know is how much I love the hunt."
The Devil's Plaything is a mind blowing read full of everything dark romance and mafia lovers want in a book. Danger, suspense, violence, betrayal, hate, passion, lust and so much more. Not to mention Victor's sexy and a bit mysterious right-hand man Javier.
Victor and Sofia are the epitome of fire and ice! Love-hate perfection!
"Our mouths fuse with venom and passion, pure and feral, lust-filled and hate-fueled."
I was completely hooked from the first page and every page that followed was more riveting than the last sucking me into this world that was so much more than I ever imagined!
5 STAR MUST READ!!!!!

Be warned - this read is not the darkest one I have ever read, built some parts of it can trigger someone.
The story starts with Columbian mafia boss (king of the city) Victor that is noted by his people of some dealings behind his back. NO ONE, I REPEAT NO ONE can do that and leave untouched. Same goes here - the payment is needed, and this payment will be young girl Sofia, that due to that will become "Devil's Plaything".
Sofia, she has dreams, like BIG dreams and she wants to achieve something in her life which makes her living with purpose, but when her father is found guilty of going behind Victor's back, she will do everything she can to safe him - even DEAL with the devil, but is that reasonable and can be trusted?
Victor and Sofia are HOT and trust me you will not be able to put this read down while reading as they will make you devour their story in one sitting!

Just awful.

Absolutely shocking book. Wasn't great anyway but the ending was just insane. He sends her of to be raped by a rival gang leader over a misunderstanding and then "saves her". Then she not only forgives him instantly but he then "fixed her" by having sex with her. Could not rate this low enough, terrible story.

I really did not want this to end… Victor & Sofia definitely had an unconventional beginning but my god after a while there was so much love between them. Yes Victor is a blood thirsty psycho leader but on the inside he has such a huge heart and he will quite literally set fire to anyone that hurts the person he loves.
Sofia has an illness which is a huge part of this story, even though it could kill her she wasn’t afraid of death and was beyond strong. She fought hard and never gave up. Victor didn’t stop at anything to help her and to “fix” her.
Their love for one another had me swooning and tears streaming down my face.
The betrayal… my god I couldn’t believe it. I HATED Victor for not listening to her and making the decision to send her away. I wanted to SCREAM. I knew he’d end up realising what a dickhead he was and then would do everything he could to get her back… but what happened to her in those days that she was away was absolutely fucking heartbreaking, my heart was torn to shreds because of what Sofia endured. I was relieved that Victor found her and did everything he could to save her and make her okay but fuck me it was heart wrenching.
This story was a rollercoaster and I enjoyed every second of it. Dani’s writing is phenomenal and I love everything she writes, I just want to binge read every book of hers.

"The one thing you need to know is I'm not apologetic in any way. I don't ask, I don't beg, I take."

The Devil's Plaything is everything and more you would want in a wicked Mafia Romance. It's one of those romances that you'll want to savor so the ending doesn't creep up on you, and one that will linger long after the last word is written. I know for certain that certain scenes are still ingrained in my mind (*wink wink)!

"Bruised by the beast. Toyed with by the monster. Devoured by the devil."

As Victor takes a breath, I have to take a breath. This story is dark, dirty and just oh, so delicious there is not enough words to describe it! Victor will enamor you with his ruthless ways; you will hate him then love him - I know I did. Sofia, will have you feeling and rooting for the underdog in a matter of minutes, and making you see Victor in a whole new light. Together they make TDP a best-selling story for 2020. Dani needs to keep writing this type of genre as she mesmerized me with her words and storytelling. Now, we just need Dani to write a story for Javier- the right hand man. I can see some wicked depravity with that man.

Dani Rene has put so much emotion, feels and actions within this book, that it will have you throwing your kindle/book at times. Believe me, you'll know what I'm talking about when you read this incredibly written novel.

The Devil's Plaything brings us to a dark and dirty mafia story with Victor at the helm as the king. Victor learned everything he needed to know from his father and he will be damned if he will let it all go away. Even falling in love is not in the cards for him.

Sofia is a beautiful young woman that knows she is on borrowed time. Things are going down around her that she has no control of. Sofia's life is now in the hands of a monster that is the king of drugs and guns in the country she lives in. And now she is under his roof.

The story comes to life in your hands while you are reading it. Sofia's light and Victor's dark are the embodiment of this story. You have to have both for the love story.

This was a great cartel romance that was filled with suspense and romance throughout. As the characters were developing we learn a lot about both Victor and Sofia as individuals but what truly pulled me into the story is when they’re together and witnessing their interactions with one another and feeling their chemistry as well as every emotion they’re feeling jump off the pages. There were moments that I was questioning particular characters motives and was surprised at their actions in the end. The way this story was told was exactly how I prefer, the author keeping the reader on their toes and engaged in the story through until the end.

Wow what a story. This was another superb read by this author.

Victor and Sofia are complete opposites. Victor is the devil who is given Sofia as a payment. He’s called devil for a reason. Sofia is a very likeable character and love how she was portrayed.

Dani does dark in a fabulous way and this was an epic read that I inhaled in one sitting.

Absolutely loved it and can’t wait to read more from Dani.

This book will reel you in and you better hang on. Such light and dark in this book. Sofía is payment to Victor simply because of her father. His heart is definitely in the right place but can she survive him? Excellent writing.

I am a lover of all things dark, the darker the better actually. I think there’s something inherently honest about dark romance, the grit and violence that accompanies them speaks to my soul. Having said that I was very excited to read this the blurb piqued my interest and I was all about it. However, it just missed the mark for me on a few aspects.

He chuckles darkly over the speaker. The sound is utterly devastating, and I know I’m making a deal with the devil.

Victor Cordero is the King of the Columbian drug cartel. He’s dark, twisted and deviously violent wrapped up in a beautiful package. Through this story we hear a lot about how violent and angry Victor is, how he doesn’t forgive and doesn’t give any mercy. However, it felt more like talk than actually showing us his dark tendencies. You see a couple things but not enough to show me that he is the King of the drug cartel. I wanted to see him run his Town and destroy all those in his way or that wrong him, and you don’t really get to see much of that. His character for me just lacked some substance and I couldn’t really feel his connection to Sofia. Everything about them felt superficial, I wanted their connection to jump from the pages and make sense and it fell a little flat for me.

His hands are twined behind his back, and I take in the beauty of the Devil as he stands looking out over his kingdom.

I liked Sofia with her fiery temper and without giving anything away there is an underlying layer to the storyline that took it in a direction that I wasn’t prepared for but enjoyed. But I really wanted Dani to go more in depth with it, I think it could have gone so much deeper than it did and could have really brought out more intense feelings in the story and added a more powerful level of desperation in the characters.

Bruised by the beast. Toyed with by the monster. Devoured by the devil.

All in all, there were just some things in this story that I wish had more depth. The writing style is there, and it is rife with potential it’s just missing some elements for me. Dani has a wonderful way with words and her precision in executing them is meticulous, I just wanted more. This story is good and the bones of it are great, it’s definitely worth a read. And ultimately I think that’s the test of a good writer when you like what you read you just need more of it.

The King of Colombia & The Broken Heart
*arc generously provided by the promo team in exchange for an honest review*

“Everything looks better from above, my king […]
I adore you, can't you see you're meant for me?
The summer's hot
But I've been cold without you
I was so wrong not to doubt, your Medellín tangerine dream.”

Salvatore – Lana Del Rey

What’s this book about? (I'm trying to give as little spoilers as possible)
Victor Cordero is the King of Colombia. With that name, there comes a cruel reputation alongside of it. Sofía Montero is a victim of circumstance. She’s innocent, but her father is not. He made a mistake. And she’s the payment.

This isn’t my first Dani René read and I’ve definitely read a bunch of mafia novels. This story is dark and steamy as hell. It was an easy read and definitely a page-turner. The back and forth between the leading couple was thrilling. The innocent heroine put up a good fight! Her relationship with her family was one of her best qualities. The chemistry between Victor and Sofía build slowly; as both were fighting what was growing between them. After a while, it was undeniable though! The steam was exquisite between the main couple; graphic scenes in other situation that were bloodier were also present, so beware of that. This novel does the mafia genre justice, that’s for sure.
Victor was as dark and mean as can be; it was difficult to relate to him in some way and for that, I give only 4 stars (which in itself means that it’s still an excellent read). In my opinion, his redeeming quality (without counting Sofía) was his best friend Javier. I found him entertaining (word-choice in a mafia novel LOL) and definitely worth of his own story.
I recommend this read to lovers of Colombian bad boys, mafia reads and doomed innocent heroines.

Made it to ch 5

I had to stop reading this book because it was actually painful. It is extremely repetitive.
The same information is drilled into the reader over and over again
She’s sick and he’s dangerous it must have been mention 40x. Also the repeat of events that just occurred is beyond painful. I really wanted to like this and really i stuck it out longer than i wanted to hoping it would get better... it did not. Not sure how the reviews are so high. This book needs to be edited

This represents everything grotesque and cancerous that is passing for “romance” nowadays. There seems to be a really sick, twisted trend of zeroes who give the heroine to others, share her or throw her away to be abused or used. In this case, the scumrat zero gives the heroine to another to be raped and tortured.

This isn’t romance. A romance is where the hero LOVES, CHERISHES and PROTECTS his woman, he doesn’t SHARE her with other men and he doesn’t let her come to harm. Period. No exceptions.
