Yesterday Best Buy showed off a pre-order page of AT&T’s Nokia Lumia 920, with a listed price of $149.99 for a 32GB version. Many were surprised to find the phone so cheap, especially since most high-end smartphones usually come in at around $200 on a new two-year contract. Strangely, the page displaying the Lumia 920, has gone missing from the giant retailer’s website. The phone has disappeared from Best Buy’s database, as the 920 isn’t even listed among other Windows Phone offerings.
This is a bit puzzling, because sold out devices still show up in the search results or on the product pages. We’re not sure if this indicates a glitch or an error on the part of the big box retailer. It seems like someone might have pushed the button prematurely, and then pulled the phone off the site once the mistake was noticed.
Apparently, some people who put orders through, said the site told them their phones will ship out October 23 or 24. This is the complete opposite of what AT&T plans to do, which is start selling the 920 in early November. Following this further, Microsoft hasn’t officially launched its new devices carrying Windows Phone 8 operating system; this is supposed to go down this Friday. So that Windows Phone 8 handsets are available for pre-order now makes no sense. We’ll keep you posted if we receive any updates on the matter.
