The Play (THE MCGREGOR BROTHERS Book 3) Kindle Edition
A troubled Scottish rugby player who doesn't play by the rules.
A vivacious man-eater who's given up on love.
When it comes to Lachlan and Kayla, opposites don't just attract - they explode.
From the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling author of The Pact and The Offer, comes The Play, a standalone spinoff and contemporary romance about taking chances and rescuing hearts.
Kayla Moore has always been comfortable with her feisty, maneating reputation. At least it was fine until she hit her thirties and saw her best friends Stephanie and Nicola settle down with Linden and Bram McGregor, leaving Kayla to be the odd one out. Tired of being the third wheel with nothing but one-night stands and dead-end dates in San Francisco, Kayla decides to take a vow of celibacy and put men on the backburner.
That is until she lays her eyes on Linden and Bram’s cousin, hot Scot Lachlan McGregor. Lachlan is her sexual fantasy come to life – tall, tatted, and built like a Mack truck. With a steely gaze and successful rugby career back in Edinburgh, he’s the kind of man that makes her want to throw her vow right out the window. But Lachlan’s quiet and intense demeanor makes him a hard man to get to know, let alone get close to.
It isn’t until the two of them are thrown together one long, unforgettable night that Kayla realizes there is so much more to this brooding macho man than what meets the eye. But even with sparks flying between the two, Lachlan can’t stay in America forever. Now, Kayla has to decide whether to uproot her whole life and chance it all on someone she barely knows or risk getting burned once again.
Sometimes love is a game that just needs to be played.
**The Play features a brooding, hot as sin Scottish rugby player with a soft spot for rescuing dogs. Because of this, preorder and release week funds were collected for animal charities. Over $12,000 was raised and will be distributed over the year. Check out Karina Halle's website for more details.**
NOTE: The Play contains profanity and sexually explicit contact - reader discretion is advised. This is not new adult.

About the author

Karina Halle is a screenwriter, a former music & travel journalist, and the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, & USA Today bestselling author of River of Shadows, The Royals Next Door, and Black Sunshine, as well as 70 other wild and romantic reads, ranging from light & sexy rom coms to horror/paranormal romance and dark fantasy. Needless to say, whatever genre you're into, she's probably written a romance for it. When she's not traveling, she and her husband split their time between a possibly haunted 120 year-old house in Victoria, BC, and their condo in Los Angeles. She seems a bit boring in her bio but I assure you she's a big ol' goof in real life. For more information, visit www.authorkarinahalle.com.

I just felt like hugging Lachlan & telling him everything will be alright. He was like one big teddy bear. Kayla was a David taking on Goliath. Her story broke my heart too.
This is one very emotional & loving read. I couldn't been more happy for this couple. Brilliant ! What more can I say.

I suspect that Kayla was greatly affected by the lost of her father. He was her mother's greatest love. Her was devastated when her husband died and never really recovered from this lost. I think Kayla internalized that lost as something to be avoided at all cost. It may have contributed to her "love them then leave them attitude".
She and Lachlan were mutually drawn to the darkness that they glimpsed in each other. I think they both unwittingly craved an intense connection with another person. There was so much pain and self loath inside Lachlan. The man was a walking time bomb. Kayla and he recognized each other as kindred spirits. I know he was scared witless, afraid to get close to people for fear that they will leave you or think you are worthless. I am glad that the author realistically depicted that substance abusers when triggered revert to abusing substances. They display a Dr Jenkin and Mr Hyde personality. It is challenging for the individual and those closest to them to remain supportive during these relapses in sobriety.
I truly enjoy these books, but these characters drink too much. Maybe it is me but I just can't understand how folk just drink to the point of becoming intoxicated. My favorite mantra is There is no answer(s) to be find in a pill, bottle or needle etc. Intoxication leads to diminished judgement and irrational behavior. You just compound your troubles in the end. Lachlan, Kayla and at least two of his rugby mates were aware that drinking was ill advised for him and that he was not comfortable in crowds; yet he was invited to a pub or he went himself.
I was left thinking, Would you hand a fire starter a match and think he or she would not use it?
I will definitely be reading the next book in this series.

This is a story of two people trying to find their way in life sometimes together and sometimes apart. Lachlan....just his name spills out sexiness and Kayla have this off the charts chemistry from day one. They are so good together, fun together, hot sexed for each other....which was sizzling by the way, so passionate for each other....everywhere (lol), so loving, so understanding until their pasts and demons catch up to them. Could their love withstand this, could they get through this.....together...apart??? This is what is worth the read how this beautiful, inspirational story evolves. Without giving too much away and reiterating the story, this amazing story has so many life lessons in it....how to love, how to like, how to let go, how to be compassionate and understanding, how to compromise, how to be there for one another, how to know when you need help for yourself and for the ones you love, how to pick up the pieces from the past and paste them together for a better future for yourself, for Lachlan, for Kayla and for both of them together. I really like stories where I could relate my own life to and this certainly has so many emotions and feels of a "real life" story.
Everyone should experience this five star read and everyone has to experience the wonderful and beautiful writing of Karina Halle. This was not my first read by Karina Halle as I mentioned and it will never be by last. She is someone to watch out for and I will always be on the look out for her next beautiful read. Her stories will stay with you forever as I have discovered and the story of Lachlan and Kayla is one that will stay with you and one that will always be close to your heart.

I don't even know where to begin or what to say about it that would do it justice. This book leaves you thinking about your own life. It makes you think about what ifs and you see yourself in the main characters Kayla and Lachlan one way or another. Either you are at a point in your life where a change might be a good idea. But would you be brave enough to do it? Or do you battle demons from your past that still have you in a tight grip in the present without you even recognising it.
Kayla seems to have a good life with great friends working at a newspaper. But things aren't like they seem. Her friends are all in a relationship so she's always the fifth. Her job doesn't satisfy her and she would even more love to write articles. All that is uncovered when Lachlan spends time with his cousins, Kaylas best friends men.
Lachlan had a more than terrible childhood and youth. Be warned, the prologue had me in tears. Recovering from an injury the Rugby star tries to help out with a charity. A brooding man having a soft heart for charities? And who is he? Why doesn't he speak? And what is it about his love for stray dogs?
The dogs play a viral part in the story and a lot of things leave you shaking your head. You want to cry for these poor babies.
I really can't even say enough how much of an impact this book had on me. It's still in my mind and it took me days to even write a review! I can only highly recommend it!
With all those deep feelings it brings to life, it also had those laughing and hot moments that left you a little breatheless.
