Retribution (Hell Night Book 1) Kindle Edition
Trouble and his brothers escaped from Malus, Texas as kids. In the dead of night, they left behind a hell so hideous, it made national news.
Years later, they returned to make the place that was once their living nightmare, a safe place for those who have suffered just as they have.
When Remi comes to town, pregnant and in desperate need of help, as the town's only doctor, Trouble reluctantly offers his services. Little did he know the strong attraction he would feel for the woman. He fights it, tries to push it to the side, but it only grows stronger, nearly consuming him.
Love is not something Trouble can afford to feel. Not when he still has vengeance in his blood and the need to punish those of his past. Not when he knows Remi would never be able to see past the merciless actions he must carry out.
Remi has no time for love either, no matter how much her heart yearns for Trouble. Not when danger is knocking on her door, demanding something she'll never be able to give.
Will the darkness in their pasts devour them, or will they find the beauty that's just out of reach? In a town like Malus, anything is possible...

About the author

Alex Grayson is a USA Today bestselling author of heart pounding, emotionally gripping contemporary romances including the Jaded Series, the Consumed Series, the Hell Night Series, and multiple standalone novels. Her passion for books was reignited by a gift from her sister-in-law. After spending several years as a devoted reader and blogger, Alex decided to write and independently publish her first novel in 2014 (an endeavor that took a little longer than expected). The rest, as they say, is history.
Originally a southern girl, Alex now lives in Ohio with her husband, daughter, three cats and one dog. She loves the color blue, homemade lasagna, casually browsing real estate, and interacting with her readers. Visit her website, www.alexgraysonbooks.com, or find her on social media!

A few times I had my heart in my stomach but it was so worth it in the end. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series
This author loves to play with our emotions and believe me, by the time you reach the end of this book, if you make it that far, you would have gone through the wheel of emotion time and time again.
Anger, disgust, repulsion and extreme heartbreak are just a few things you'll feel as you hear 'Trouble' tell his story of what he and his 3 'brothers' went through as children but it will also give you clarity and understanding of why the do what they do now as adults.
Trouble doesn't have room for anything more in his life than his work and seeking revenge and destruction of those who wronged him in the past. That's why when Remi finds herself stranded in Malus she throws his well ordered life into disarray. Love was something he never saw happening for him, but very slowly she starts getting under his skin.
Remi is running with a belly full of her own secrets so when she finds herself on bed rest in a tiny Texas town the last thing she expects to find is herself falling for the dark and dangerous town Doctor.
This dual POV tale will suck you in from the very beginning and hold you hostage while you wrap your head around these great characters, the secrets they hold and the love that binds them together.
Trouble, JW, Judge and Elmo are all best friends who grew up together in the town of Sweet Haven, they are so close and have been through so much together they call themselves brothers but what these people experienced was just unbelievable to read about, and yet I couldn't put this book down. All the characters in this book bought out different emotions in me, my heart ached, I felt so angry, I felt pity for them but also there was hope and the word Karma comes to play in this fabulous book.
If you like dark dark reads then go and one click this book, Alex Grayson has done a fabulous job with this story, and I'm looking forward to book two in this series !!!

All that said, y'all I loved this book and all it's tragedy and unspeakable acts. You all know (if you have followed my reviews for any length of time) how I feel about revenge and redemption. You know that I am all for characters getting what they deserve and I am happy to say that these Brothers from Malus are ready to deal it out. I will mention that I got some total The Lottery by Shirley Jackson vibes (not right up, but an underlying feeling when it comes to the way the town is run) and I am down for that.
Sidenote: If you like dark stories and have never read The Lottery, it should be on your must read list.
I was a little hesitant about our Heroine being pregnant for what ever reason I always get a little bugged out by the already pregnant by someone else when the Heroine meets the Hero (I think it's that idea of romantic perfection that is tarnished idea) but it absolutely works for this story and plays a major role in the Hero's past and future. The baby is exactly what the hero needs so he can truly see that there is a future ahead of him and having him love a child not of his own creation the way he does just makes you fall more in love with him. These are heroes that do bad things but are not bad people. These are heroes you will love from the beginning because their history makes what they do understandable and to be honest if it were a true situation I would say desirable. Maybe that makes my soul a little dark but I am A-Okay with that.
I adored the romance between Remi and Trouble. I didn't even mind the back and forth because I know exactly where the drama between them stems from and I understand the reasoning behind it. This is a town of untrusting people that Remi rolls into, and for very good reason and her past is nothing to sneeze at either. I kinda missed the therapy point, the idea that they have gone though something so traumatic and the steps it took to get back to a point where relationships are okay. I missed wanting to know if Trouble's little 'dark issue' clears up when he finally falls in love or does he still fight said issue to this day. Honestly though in the scheme of things that's me knit-picking and doesn't give or take away from the entirety of the story, maybe it's jus the wanting more of these characters.
I am incredibly curious about all the brothers, particularly Justice and Emo...I mean, how is Justices story going to play out 'cause that's going to be interesting and Emo, gah...my heart just breaks thinking of him. He's so unbelievably damaged and needs love the most..meaning we will get his book last, hahaha.
Alex Grayson just became a one-click author for me with this book. She is going to shock you and make you tear up, but every moment is so well thought out and written that even the pain you feel is worth the joy that comes out of it in the end. These brothers are broken, they are fighting to take back what was taking from them but it isn't going to be easy and it definitely not going to be pretty but considering they survived hell to get where they are they deserve every piece of joy and love they can get. I'll be over here impatiently waiting for book two.

This is Trouble's story and one that will stay with me forever. Trouble is one of 4 friends or brothers as they call themselves. There is Trouble, JW, Judge and Elmo. They are probably as close or closer than any brothers would be and after what they have all been through I am not surprised. I really don't want to give anything away by going into the story. Each one of them has seen and had to go through things, no one should ever have to witness or go through. I absolutely love these guys and I totally understand what they do and why they do it.
This is a harrowing and emotional read and I get it won't be for everyone, but if you like dark reads then you will certainly need to read this. I think it has to be one of the best books I've read this year so far!

So I feel really conflicted with this one. Some parts of me really want to give it a 5. Its definitely a more interesting and unique storyline and I liked the almost "fated" aspect of it. I liked the pull between the two MCs and how he claims her son as his own. Its also a slow burn, which I didn't mind at all given the context of the story. Its just the opening scene really gave me a case of the icks. Like bad. I got it in the context of the story, but if the author is throwing that out certain behaviors as an effect of the MCs abuse, then I couldn't help but think about the MMC still having these thoughts about other female patients after he's with the heroine 🤷🏻♀️. Anyway, I enjoyed it overall, despite the opening scene, but yeah, I found it ick. Also, PLEASE read trigger warnings, its extremely graphic on page SA of minors (in the past).
