1. Treatment Attitudes and Expectations Questionnaire (AEQ)

Year: 1985

Developers:
Elkin, Irene; Parloff, Morris B.; Hadley, Suzanne W.; Autry, Joseph H.

Description:
Greater congruence of participant’s expectations of treatment and beliefs regarding the causes and nature of substance use with those of the treatment they receive may result in improved outcome over participants whose treatment expectations contrast with study treatment received. The AEQ is a 36-item scale that inquires about reasons for entering treatment and preferences in counseling. It was adapted from the NIMH TDCRP scale (Elkin et al, 1985), with modifications made to make it appropriate for use with drug dependent individuals. The AEQ has been used by Project MATCH and the NIDA CTN.
