Well, it's been a while! While, I'd rather not go into detail of the happenings of my personal life that coincided with the 4-month gap between episodes of this podcast (I'm a spy, OK?), will let you know a few things you may have missed: I did not one, not two, but three fill-ins on WFMU. Listen to the results my Discogs transactions. Unblinking Ear Records released the 4th album from Plates of Cake, Let's Not Deprive Each Other. It rules. Get yourself a copy. Let's Not Deprive Each Other by Plates of Cake I recorded a guest appearance for several episodes of the Decline Minute Podcast, where The Decline of Western Civilization (the documentary on the Los Angeles punk scene circa 1980, not current events) is dissected minute-by-minute . They're on hiatus themselves but I believe I'll be the first guest when they come back. A lot of fine people died. I mentioned a few in the latest podcast. However, between its recording and posting, Mike Hudson of the Pagans passed away, which I'd be remiss if I didn't mention. RIP Mike. Anyway, after several false starts and many, many Garageband crashes, here's the new podcast. Download the latest The Unblinking Ear Podcast Or Subscribe via iTunes

Above is an image from the Instagram of Peteski of this isn't happiness (occasionally NSFW), who was just profiled on Dangerous Minds and sometimes pairs the images he posts with songs he heard on this podcast or on my WFMU fill-ins. I'm finally returning the hat tip. Or I'm just stealing content. However you want to frame it. Download the latest The Unblinking Ear Podcast Or Subscribe via iTunes

If you enjoy this podcast (and if you're reading this, I hope you would at this point) and live in New York (god help you), you're certainly welcome to come see/hear me DJ live in person with my pal Jenn at young person gathering place Alphaville. Live podcasts are all the rage now and this is sort of like that. Except no ads for Bonobos. So not at all. Download the latest The Unblinking Ear Podcast Or Subscribe via iTunes

(Above: Kenny Omega, who had a pretty good 2016 himself) My best podcast of the year is usually the first one. Why? Because I've read a whole bunch of other people's best of the year list from the preceding year and cherry picked my favorites from what I hadn't heard. This podcast is truly standing on the shoulders of giants. (Giants, in the case, usually meaning former fanzine editors in their late 40s/early 50s.) Daveistrad ,

Great podcast!

I love this podcast. This music is right up my alley and I don't know any other podcasts that are quite as on point. The podcast also put out a really good mixtape called Serious Rockers I think. Anyway, I've discovered a ton of rad bands. I just discovered this podcast recently, so am going through all the old ones now. Luckily, there's a lot of old ones, so I'm set for a while.

Serious Rockers

only!

Paul Bruno still has immaculate taste

And a growing network of contacts in independent punk/pop/psych so that his reach is even wider than the last time I reviewed a year back. And I love that he's not afraid, very occasionally, to play a band like Spoon. But mostly it's small independent bands rocking because they enjoy it, or inevitably, because they couldn't stop it if they tried. PB is the master sommelier of independent rock.
