The Trishas

Austin-based quartet The Trishas returns to Golden Light Cantina on Friday to promote its recently released album, "High, Wide & Handsome."

The four women trade songwriting and lead singing responsibilities, co-writing among themselves and with other established writers.

That's a change for Trishas member Jamie Wilson, who previously had written in solitude.

"It's hard to take something you start to do on your own because you have the need to do it and start to co-write with someone else who had their own experiences and own habits and own ways of doing things," Wilson said. "Before this band, I was pretty much a lone soldier in the writing biz."

But she's especially happy with a trio of songs she co-wrote for the album: "Mother of Invention" with Nashville writer Natalie Hemby, "Little Sweet Cigars" with Evan Felker of Turnpike Troubadours and "John Wayne Cowboy" with Owen Temple.

"Sometimes it really works out," Wilson said. "You get some of their style and some of your style, and as long as you're open and honest with each other, you get something that you're really proud of."

Cover charge is $10.

Woman Wise!

One-named country-turned-Christian singer Kelita will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday at Woman Wise!, a concert event at Coulter Road Baptist Church, 4108 S. Coulter St.

"I was a country singer, and my life was like a country song," said the Cloverdale, British Columbia, singer-

songwriter. "I used to sing country music for years, then I changed my direction to Christian."

In the years since then, Kelita has released five more albums, the most recent being 2010's "The Heart of a Woman," a stripped-down, intimate selection of songs using a simple instrumentation and production style.

"'Heart of a Woman' is the CD that I have dreamed about recording my whole life," Kelita said. "The songs are performed live off the floor ... It's a soothing CD with lyrics that are raw and real."

Tickets are $10.
