A male suffered life-threatening injuries when he was struck by a GO train during Monday morning’s commute, York Regional Police say.

The male was hit by the train on Mulock Drive, between Bayview Avenue and Cane Parkway, in Newmarket at about 8 a.m.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

Because of the collision, the Toronto-bound train stopped at the scene, located south of the Newmarket GO Station. The delay is expected to last two hours.

Because of the delay for passengers, GO Transit dispatched a second train to take riders from Aurora to Union Station, and provided bus service to certain stations.

Meanwhile, police are asking anyone with information about the collision to call investigators at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7141 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
