There is no better person than Ted Williams to testify that fame isn’t the panacea to all your problems.
The formerly homeless man, who catapulted to fame with a YouTube video (and Reddit support), revealed Monday to NBC’s Today that he has been sober for a year and is detailing his life in a new book.
“I have a new rooted background,” the man with the “golden voice” told anchor Matt Lauer, adding that he is surrounding himself with “great” people. Since being discovered by a Ohio newspaper reporter in December 2010, Williams has battled drug and alcohol addiction while figuring out his new life in the public eye.
Williams has entered rehab twice in the past year and used money he earned from speaking roles on alcohol. He said while his day-to-day battles against drinking remains, he finds strength in prayer.
“I never stopped praying, I never lost hope,” Williams said. In the four-minute segment, Williams talked about his relationship problems, career aspirations, and the dream car he hopes purchase in five years.
