* This is a New Adult romance novel recommended for ages 18+ due to sexual content and mature subject matter.

She didn’t know what she was missing…until he found her.

Maxwell Knight was positively trouble, dangerously good-looking, and seductively charming. He was everything Jeanella didn’t need in her life. Only Maxwell didn’t see it that way. His pursuit was relentless, making her even more determined to push him away.

Fresh out of college, life was simple and plain for Jeanella Mefferd. Every part of her life was smooth sailing; her friends, her job, and even the guy she’d started dating. Then one night, while at dinner, she spotted someone who made her feel things she’d never felt before—dangerous, heart pounding and breathless heat. Thinking she would never see him again, she brushed it off, but when she started to run into him unexpectedly, all she could think of was how he made her feel with his sweet flirtations. Everything about Maxwell Knight screamed trouble, especially when she found out he was her new boss’s son. Now, heading to a New York fashion show, would she be able to focus on her career instead of Maxwell, who had been scheduled to attend with her? As much as she tried to forget their encounters, his good looks, smooth words and determination to win her over gravitated her toward him. The next thing she knew, her mind was utterly consumed by him. Would she be willing to ignore all the dangerous signs and jump into his arms? Or would she miss out on the chance of finding something great?

This book is named SOMETHING GREAT for a reason..>IT IS FREAKING AMAZING! I am so in love with this book. NO LIE! Author M Clarke has captured a BEAUTIFUL story and given it life. I am not usually a romance reader. I am more of a paranormal/magic/supernatural type of reader. This book had me hooked from the very beginning. I love the twists and turns, the characters and the storyline. I am looking forward to more books by M Clarke.

This is exactly what I posted once I finished reading Something Great.

I finished Something Great last night. OMG I AM SO IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK!!!! YOU my friend are amazing. You have DEFINITELY NAILED THE ROMANCE GENRE!!!!Congrats on this amazing book. Buddy Read with one of my BBBs (best book bitches) Jessica!!

Here we are reading the book....

Oh wait...you thought this was a comedy?!?!

Something Great = NOT so great!

DNF'd at approximately 60%!!!

Mostly--the dialogue! It was bad, horrible, embarassing, cheesy as hell....

I think the following quotes speak for themselves!

"I'm your prescription. Let me be your new addiction."

Really Max? Really? Does that line usually work for you??

"We can cuddle, just like this. And we don't have to be just lunch buddies, we can be cuddle bunnies."

What grown ass man says that shit??

Max:

"Needing that Rice Krispies Treat right that moment, I reached inside the bag. What I saw stunned me, and even tugged at my heart. He hadn't broken it in half as I had expected. Instead, he had molded it into the shape of a heart."

As if all of that wasn't bad enough....then they had sex!

"He was teasing me, taking his time, kissing where his lips could touch down south."

Down south? That's the best you've got??

"With several penetrations, he punctured through, and I moaned with pleasure and pain."

Punctured through?? WTF? P.S. People--she was NOT a virgin. I don't know what kind of sex you're having but there is NO. PUNCTURING. NEEDED. thank you very much!

And just a heads up....calling it a vagina, penis and clitoris is not HOT. At. All. It all sounds a bit too clinical.

At this point,

what happens to these two!

Technically I cannot rate this book since I didn't finish it so you can read my review and decide for yourself if you want to read it.

Bookread with JAnne. I was so excited for this book....And then I started reading....I told JAnne that it was sucking...And then JAnne said it wasn't getting any better for her.....

sorry photo tumblr_mbuhgnHuGa1riqizno1_500_zpsd71bb7e9.gif

so I quit reading...

best decision photo tumblr_m6v03yqyG81rr2sj3_zps34ce2bad.gif

This book seemed very juvenile....The storyline was where ignorant girl gets job and meets guy and guy winds up owning (in this case being bosses son) place where she starts working. Jeanella (your parents should be slapped) aka Jenna meets Max and he's just such a hottie, blah blah blah...She can't be with him though because she's dating Luke even though they haven't kissed. Max stalks sees her constantly and arranges for them to take a trip to New York together for work and Jenna is just so stupid and questioning how this happened.

"Though there was nothing to laugh about, especially seeing this hottie in front of me, I couldn't help but giggle from his words."

I mean really? How fucking old are you? Just wait...There is more:

Needing that Rice Krispies Treat right that moment, I reached inside the bag. What I saw stunned me, and even tugged at my heart. He hadn't broken it in half as I had expected. Instead he had molded it into the shape of a heart. After that, I knew...unwillingly...I as making a space for him in my heart."

seriously photo tumblr_inline_mk8oywyCy11qz4rgp_zps3e32071c.gif

"Why don't you sleep with both of them, and see who makes you sing hallelujah."

Really....She wants to see which one makes her sing hallelujah? I mean you couldn't say which one had better motion in the ocean, which one has a bigger dick, which one could make you come in two seconds flat, no you used singing of hallelujah...

rolling eyes photo tumblr_lye98jhg7e1r1cdx4_zps3d1cbf69.gif

"For reasons unknown, the heat was now brewing inside me as anger."

Are you stupid?? You don't know why you were turned on but now angry? Maybe b/c he never told you he was Mr. Knight! Duh dumbass!

stupid photo tumblr_md6wt6ZWDe1rnvwt1_zps76cf2d79.gif

So they got to New York and checked in and he wrote her a note that said "Dearest Lunch Buddy" so finally I said

done photo tumblr_lnwvcgSoVU1qgex52o1_500_zpsf88c0517.gif

And if that bitch or her friends giggled one more time...

Blah blah blah...Some more stupid crap...To sum it up:

Something Great is a fast paced new adult novel that is full of hotness and anticipation that teaches you to never settle, but to hold out for something great!

Jenna’s life is simple and safe. She has her best friends, steady job, a new relationship that is safe and progressing slowly. It’s not in her nature to be spontaneous and reckless. However, life for Jenna is about to change when she interviews for the job of her dreams and runs into a gorgeous guy who is very flirtacious with her.
Jenna likes her slow moving safe relationship she has going on at the moment. It’s so safe that she doesn’t actually know if they are “boyfriend-girlfriend” yet. However, the mystery guy that she keeps running into, but yet has not been able to get a name, leaves her daydreaming about a not so safe romance. Jenna’s best friends try to encourage her to persue this mystery man, but will she ever run into him again?

Something Great is a coming new adult novel that heats you up from your head to your toes. As I was reading, I literally wanted to be in Jenna’s shoes. The incredible storyline increases rapidly, as Jenna goes out of her comfort zone after she learns that she deserves more out of life than just hanging back. Jenna’s best friends, a group from college, are incredible funny and totally honest. Max is mysterious and sexy, hindering you from putting the story down because you desperately thrive to learn more about him. As you learn more about Jenna and Max, you discover how much you crave for their romance to blossom. There are obstacles along the way, (this is a new adult book and not a fairy tale you know!), so don’t think it’s going to be smooth sailing. Twists and turns are a definite attention grabber, and you learn that something great may turn into something wonderful.

It’s a must read in a new genre that is fast growing with popularity

It's a miracle I managed to finish this book!

I was so excited before I started reading! I liked the blurb, loved the cover and even the first few chapters were great! But then it went quickly downhill. I can't even count how many times I was on the brick of giving up! The one thing I don't understand: How this book got so many 5-star ratings???

First of all, the story is NOTHING ORIGINAL!
Shy and introvert Jeanella Mefferd, a.k.a. Jenna meets the rich, womanizer, Maxwell Knight, they fall in love, blah, blah, blah...

I was confused! It felt like I wasn't even reading a book meant for Adults/New Adults. The characters acted like children! Sometimes it was amusing, but mostly it was extremely annoying!

1.) CHARACTERS

Jenna was hilarious (in a bad way)! .. and most of the time her actions and words didn't make sense! xD

Oh my Gosh, how do I describe her? She didn't do anything else, but...

... tripped

... giggled

... chuckled

... tripped again!

... and again!

THROUGH THE WHOLE BOOK!!! I'm not even kidding! :( I was sure she must have had some serious medical condition at that point! She fell down, giggled, blushed like crazy, often did the three together. It was annoying to no end!

You may ask, "And what about Maxwell?"! Well, in a way these two matched! They were both annoying.

You would think Max was really a bad-boy in the book, right? A charming, enigmatic, sex-on-the-legs? WRONG! He was like a big baby!

He squealed and giggled...

He was a Rice Krispie Treat Houdini!
"...he had molded it into the shape of the heart."
LOL

...he talked with his "naughty hand". LMAO

... and he used words like lunch buddies and cuddle buddies TOO MUCH. Maybe he thought it was funny! Well, Max, it wasn't!

2.) DIALOGUE

It was too cheesy, too dramatic, too this-doesn't-even-makes-sense, too everything! *sigh*

When Jenna drinks a glass of wine (despite her being allergic to alcohol), she instantly turns red like a lobster. It was a bit unrealistic.

Then she opens her mouth and says things like:

"After this drink, I won't be able to think or...feel."

LOL!! It made me think of Snow White before she eats the poisonous apple!

Seriously, who says things like that?!?!

Another:

"I felt so hot that I wanted to take his shirt off."
LMAOOOOOO What, again? She was hot and wanted to take HIS shirt off??? How it would have helped? LOL

And guess how she knows Max is special?

"Giggling inwardly, I thought about how many times Max had to take my finger out of my mouth. Oddly, I never had the urge to put my finger in my mouth with Luke."

Oh Jenna, Jenna! *facepalm*

Needless to say, the book was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT for me!

I don't want to discourage anyone to read it. Anyway, if you do...

* 1 little star from me *

Blog Tour on my blog July 20th:
http://pleaseanotherbook.tumblr.com/p...

“We haven’t even gone out, and how you could make me feel this way…I don’t understand. You
have this hold on me that’s exciting and terrifying at the same time. But if I held onto my fears,
then I would never have taken the leap, but I did. I wanted to dive right into your heart and permanently stay there. I fell for you the first time I looked into your eyes. That’s all it took.
Then I knew I’d found the one I’ve been waiting for all my life.”

Maxwell Knight è molto problematico, pericolosamente bello e seduttivamente accattivante.

Posso dirlo?

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤
VERY GOOD: The characteristics of a heart book include: a great story; I loved the characters; and there was an interesting plot and unique story elements; there may have been a few odd things kept the story from being amazing. I would read it again and I would recommend it to a friend.
This book was provided by the author for an honest review.

My Thoughts:
Something Great was a very sweet contemporary romance that was about Max Knight and Jenna Mumford. Jenna is fresh out of college with aspirations of doing something more in the world of fashion. Taking a chance, she applies for a job at Knight Magazine. On a night out with her best friend and roommate, Becky, Jenna is encouraged to look around at the hot men in the bar. Jenna is resistant because she has been dating someone for the past month. Jenna is all about fidelity and refuses to be coerced by Becky. Until Becky points out a man and dares Jenna to look in his direction. Jenna reluctantly concedes and is blown away when she makes direct contact with a gorgeous and enigmatic man across the bar. They make eyes at each other for a little while but Jenna feels guilty because of her dating status. After leaving the bar, Jenna goes home with thoughts of the beautiful man. She wake's the next day and rushes off to her interview at the Knight Magazine. She interviews well and leaves the interview feeling positive. After the interview, she stops into a local cafe to get something to eat. Arriving in the cafe, Jenna looks around and spies the gorgeous man from the bar. Surprised, Jenna stumbles into a customer in front of her. The customer rudely dresses her down and gorgeous man comes to her aid and commands the man to apologize. Jenna is left discombobulated by his presence so she fumbles to quickly get away from him. Fast forward a few days and Jenna gets the call that she received the job at the magazine. On her first day of work, Jenna goes to lunch and runs into the gorgeous man for the third time. Jenna finally finds out that his name is Max. She later discovers that he is Maxwell Knight, the son of the company's owner. Jenna and Max embark on a whirlwind relationship that begins with friendship and ends with love.

Something Great was such an enjoyable story that I totally immersed myself in it. It wasn't a damaged hero meets naive girl kind of romance. Thank God. It was a very mature romance, although the characters were young in age. Max and Jenna were well paired and I appreciated how their relationship developed. I loved Max's persistent wooing of Jenna. The heart Rice Krispy treats was so sweet and Max became one of my book boyfriends right then *grin*. There wasn't much angst in the story, which I also appreciated. There were two fairly serious conflicts in the story that were dealt with swiftly and easily by Ting. The conflicts were not unnecessarily drawn out which I was thankful for. Sadly, Jenna was the source of both incidents. The first was because she delayed dealing with a situation that caused Max to be hurt. But what made me love Max even more was that, even in his hurt, he managed to take care of Jenna when she needed him. I just wanted to hug him. The second incident was because of a misunderstanding and Jenna’s inflexibility in allowing Max to explain the situation. Her perception caused her to act irrationally, creating a potentially deadly situation. But because of the second instance, Jenna was able to see Max’s heart and his love.

Mary Ting did a beautiful job conveying a story of love and friendship. I hope she continues the series with Becky and Matthew's story. THAT one will be fun! Excellent job, indeed.

This book was amazing. Let me tell you, for someone who hasbn't written in this genre before. Well, she nailed it out of the park. This is the best book I have read in 2013 and maybe period. I am so tired of reading the rock stars, bad boys, etc. Max was a gentleman, so sweet, caring and loving. He really loved Jenna and he did everything to show her and make her feel special. Jenna, I loved and adored. She wasn't like most other book heroines. She was strong, amazing and I loved how she was differen't. When you will read, you will know what I mean. They had some ups and downs and came through. Their love was so strong. And may I add, Max is probably the sweetest book boyfriend ever and oh boy, was he hilarious. Matthew was also a charmer. Cannot wait for more. This was a truly amazing book, must read <3

This is an amazing story about the unexpected whirlwind romance between Max and Jeanella. They run into each other and find that there is a chemistry that is undeniable, but trying to stay focused and not cheat on her current boyfriend Jeanella ignores her feelings. Max fights hard to get her attention and does cute and sweet things to impress her. Jeanella finds her feeling are becoming overwhelming and cant deny them any longer. This story has its ups and downs, highs and lows that every great romance has. I recommend this story to anyone who wants to feel like they are part of something great!

I was gifted a copy from the author for an honest review.

“I’m your prescription. Let me be your new addiction”. I LOVED that!! The pull between the main characters is fantastic. How they are able to hold off is beyond me. Jenna knows what she wants and it could very well be Max but she is at a crossroads when it comes to him being her boss’s son and she’s not sure she really wants to go there. BUT, is the pull he has on her too intense that she isn’t able to say no to him. This is a first in romance for this author Ms. Clarke and very well written. I hope to see more from her.

When I read Mary Ting’s YA Crossroads series, it crossed my mind she would be a great Adult Contemporary Romance author, too, if she turned up the heat. Well, my wish came true in her new Adult novel, Something Great, written under her pseudonym, M. Clarke.

The story is both fast-paced and an easy read while it gives you the emotional turmoil and angst Jenna experiences with her feelings for her boyfriend, Luke, and the very hot, Max.
While Jenna explores her feelings and tries to decide whether she wants safe and study or exciting but uncertain, she has a support system with her four college friends. They are characters you can relate to and they give her the support and the honesty she needs. Their dialogue is funny and heartwarming.

Max is definitely one of my favorite book boyfriends. He’s sweet, sexy and knows how to keep things steamy! Mary does a wonderful job of setting the scene and describing the sexy chemistry between Jenna and Max!

Review of Something Great

Written by M. Clarke

Reviewed by R. Murry

Romantic stories are now geared to the young, because they are the only ones who fall in love?! The one difference I see in Contemporary Romance vs. any other Romance novel is gadgets used to upscale the plot. In Mary’s novel Something Great, that gadget is a Smart Phone, with people using texts to convey information. I’m old school and don’t text.

Mary has done an excellent job using this communication media to enhance the story of her two lover’s journey. Using this new way to snappily deliver one’s thoughts brings different emotions into play which a face to face directness diffuses. The author uses wisely the differences of those exchanges to develop the storytelling.

In M. Clarke’s version of a love story, there is playfulness, teasing, giggling, winking, and the old standby of kissing one’s lover in the place that drives them crazy. Effortlessly she leads the reader on through a story made in heaven and we all know that when that happens, there is always the pit falls.

The main character armed with a family of three friends, who have a group text site to speed up communications between them, falls heads over heals for the perfect man, albeit some say he is a women magnet and has slept with many of them. He, on the other hand, has emotions that he never had before, which impedes his directness.

Their affair is sometimes torrid but mostly cute and moves along smoothly. He uses his position to show his affection and she uses her friends for advice to understand it. M. Clarke does a fine job of writing an uncomplicated story that becomes complicated because of her intended character’s communication skill and style.

This novel is for the young and old romantics. It resonates on all levels. An enjoyable summer afternoon read.

This book really is Something great. I read it all in one night because I simply could not put it down. It was so worth my book hangover the next day. Jeanella is a likable and determined character and Maxwell is simply swoon-worthiness tied in a bow. When the two cross paths, feelings are ignited on both sides. Little do either of them realize their paths will cross again. I think what I really enjoyed about this book and what sets it apart from so many of the NA stories out there is that is does not just go for heat, although there is some of that ;). This is a story of true love, friendship, learning to trust and *spoiler alert* HEA's. Just writing about it is making me want to reread it. If you like NA romances with characters that you would want to know in real life, and true love then this book is probably for you.
This is the NA debut of Crossroads Author, Mary Ting. I knew when reading her YA that she could be an amazing NA/adult writer because she "got" the anticipation so many authors of adult works miss. I hope she continues to write more in genre because I simply loved it.

I wasn't sure what I was going to think of this book but I really enjoyed it. It showed two people who had their own trust issues but also fell hard for each other. Jeanella and Max make a good couple but talking was a problem for them.
I'm going to continue with the next book because I want to know Matt's story.

Something Great is greater than great...

You know, when you read the synopsis, you get your first impression of the book..My first thought about this book was that it's gonna be really good-great...But that was the understatement of the year!..
It is spectacular!

I'm not going to dwell on the characters,as I usually do...The synopsis does that on its own..And btw, this synopsis is actually really great!

However,I am going to dwell on the quality of the book...The current rating here is 3.99..And that's a shame..Don't get me wrong!Of course everyone has their opinion and each and every one of them is well respected..That's why we all are here..But it is a shame because the book is beyond great, just because it surprises you..We readers get so excited about a book and then we read it,and we're like "That's what we've been waiting for?Whaaat???"...But this one here..ah...It surprised the h** out of me...

A stellar debut in the up-and-coming New Adult genre, M. Ting has written a heartfelt glimpse at the world of newly discovered adult responsibilities intermixed with hot and steamy romance. Jenna Mefferd is just out of college and looking to make her way when she meets Max. Attractive, confident, and always popping up when she least expects him, Max is everything Jenna does not need in her life. Only Max does not see it that way. His pursuit is relentless and unconventional, making Jenna even more determined to push him away. Twists and turns abound, along with some funny scenes that are sure to entertain. A fun read for anyone who likes romance, comedy, and a coming-of-age story rolled into one.

There was no need for words; I felt his hard stare on my body, as if he was undressing me with his gorgeous eyes. His gaze was powerful, as if his eyes were hands; I felt them all over me, completely unraveling me.

College graduate, Jeanella Meffered has always kept her life plain and simple. She liked everything to run smooth, her friends, her job and even the guy she is dating Luke. Luke has never made her feel special but mostly he has never made her feel. He doesn’t treat her bad but he doesn’t go out of his way to make her feel special.

One night while out to dinner with her friend, a gorgeous and dangerous looking man captures her attention. Something in his stare shot straight to her nerves which woke up with a vengeance. Jenna has never felt this way about anyone before and she doesn’t even know him. What was it about this stranger that makes her want to take a chance?
There was a strong, undeniable connection, like two lost souls finally finding each other.

Maxwell Knight is handsome, charming and seductive and he always gets what he wants. He is used to women falling at his feet. When he spots Jenna he is taken by her beauty and the fact that she acts like he is just another person. After a few chance meetings, Max wants to get to know her better but getting her to go on a date with him has been much harder than he expected it to be.

“I can tell you’re beautiful on the inside and outside. You’re a diamond in the rough. My once in a lifetime chance, and I’m not letting you go.”

After a few encounters Jenna can no longer stay away from Max. There is something there between them. He consumes her every thought. Breaking things off with Luke, she cautiously pursues things with Max. Completely out of her safe zone, Jenna dives head first into a fast moving intense relationship.

When someone from his past shows up and is caught leaving his place, Jenna is devastated. Instead of asking questions, she does what any broken hearted woman would do. She runs but her decision ends up hurting more people than she planned. Through it all Jenna learns that she needs to follow her heart and sees that Max could possibly be her something great.

“I need you, Jenna. I’ve never needed anyone the way I need you.”

I enjoyed being able to see Jenna grow and struggle. She is very innocent and is reluctant to trust. She is sexually inexperienced and Max is the first man who is able to bring out Jenna’s sensuality. She has a good head on her shoulders and is witty when she needs to be. I also loved how clumsy she is and the situations she seemed to always end up in when it comes to Max.

Max is so intense, handsome and charming. He ooze sex. He is caring yet demanding but it doesn’t come off as him being a control freak. He comes from money and is still very humble. He is honest yet secretive and his feelings for Jenna are loud and clear.

Becky, Jenna’s best friend is wonderful. She gives the inexperienced Jenna some great advice but seems to struggle with her own love life.
Matthew is Max’s younger brother. He has suffered a tragic loss. He is back home and getting his life back on track. He just as good looking as Max and proves to be a wonderful friend to Jenna.

Max and Jenna’s relationship seems to have a few big bumps in the road before they even really get into a relationship but it was good because I think it makes them stronger. The relationship did move a bit fast but seriously, life is short and when you find someone that makes you happy, you go for it!

Aside from a few grammatical errors this story was funny, sexy with a little angst and heart ache.

Mary Ting did a wonderful job with this story.

I was instantly drawn to this book just by the cover however what was in the page was so much better. Something Great was absolutely amazing and left you wanting more. The story was well thought out, characters were awesome. Max was def blush worthy and boy did he know how to make a girl swoon. He was the total package, good looks and loaded to boot, almost too good to be true. Jenna of course knew his type right from the start or so she thought besides that she had a boyfriend who was comfortable and safe. However she soon learned she needed some excitement in her life and Max is the only person to give it to her. Even with bumps in the road and things moving too fast for Jenna, they both new that Something Great was happening.

I really enjoyed and loved reading this book and HIGHLY recommend others to read it as well, however, this isn't just one to get on your ereader this is one you have to buy in print and smell the pages, one once you read it you'll def be reading it several times over.

Mary Ting has done it again! She made me laugh and cry at the same time. I became so involved in the characters that I couldn't put it down. In this New Adult book, Mary gives romance without making it sound so mechanical. The twists and turns kept me on edge while all the time I was saying come on be with Max...who cares who his dad is...lol.

As always I can't wait for another book by her!

Mary Ting, aka M. Clarke in this case, has made the transition to adult romance very successfully. I've been a huge fan of Mary's ever since I first read Crossroads, but as M. Clarke, Mary has crossed the line into more adult themes while maintaining the style that has made her other books so successful. Ladies, you're gonna fall in love with Max Knight...he's gorgeous, he's sexy, and he knows how to make his lady feel sooo loved! Jeanella is torn between solid, safe Luke, who she is currently dating but doesn't exactly light her fires, and Max, who she keeps running into seemingly randomly, and who makes her tingle just by being near him. A couple of pitfalls threaten the romance that begins to develop between Jeanella and Max, pitfalls created by lack of communication and misunderstandings. Will Jeanella decide to take the safe route with Luke, or take a leap of faith with Max? I guarantee you're gonna love to find out what happens, and you're gonna love the book!!

Trust doesn't come easy for Jenna, so she's always playing it safe. When a total stranger puts her pulse into overdrive she expects it to be a one time occurrence. What are the chances of running into him again? She was as wrong as she could be. Little did she know Max was her boss's son.

Max wasn't an option because he wasn't safe, and now he definitely isn't an option. Letting herself get caught up in him would be unprofessional. Max doesn't take rejection, and he pursues Jenna like it's his job. Can Max get this careful girl to be a little reckless? Can he get her to realize they might have Something Great?

I love this book! All the characters were absolutely amazing. I seriously don't think I could find a flaw with this book, it was perfect in every way! In one word it was completely and utterly Exceptional!

I am in love with this book! Jenna & her friends have been so fun to get to know! Max is hilarious & dreamy all in one! I have said for a long time that I am not a contemporary romance fan per say, but I have found that there are indeed a few authors out there that have me begging for more! M. Clarke is now on that list!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for this book! I am seriously in need of the next!
