Step Internet Newsletter III

Dear ,
Summer’s here, the sun is (sometimes) shining, and what better way to enjoy the beautiful weather than to sit in front of your computer and soak up our latest newsletter? No? Well, you can’t blame us for trying. This month we will be mostly eating taramasalata. Beyond that, we’ve got some expert tips on how to make Facebook do more than just what it says on the tin (if indeed Facebook had a tin). So sit back, relax, put on the kettle, and bask in our expert knowledge. Step Internet is here to cure those summertime blues.

Are you a Facebook dummy?

There’s nothing wrong with being clueless about how to make the most of social media; after all, Facebook doesn’t come with an instruction manual. Luckily, there are enough computer wonks like us to make your life a little easier. Once you’ve overcome your Facebook fear, your business will enjoy unprecedented access (in theory) to a global marketplace of 1.28 billion users. Quite simply, it’s the cheapest, most far-reaching form of advertising ever!

But I really, really don't have time. Is there an easier way?

Yes! Sort of. Rather than sit in front of a computer every day, we recommend that you schedule your Facebook posts in advance.

Simply write an update, click the clock icon and input a date and time of your choosing. This way, you can pre-arrange weeks of updates and do it all in one fell swoop. It also means you can publish content when your customers are most likely to be online (perhaps in the middle of the afternoon when they’re pretending to work!).

Zzzzz…zzzz…

Wake up, sleepy head. If all this sounds like hard work, we suggest roping in a member of staff (or two) and sharing the responsibility. Ultimately, a business that’s responsive to customers’ needs is a winner in anyone’s book. Even better - Step Internet offers both a social media set-up and management service, which really takes away the strain. So all in all, you’re running out of excuses for being a Facebook dummy!

Let us help you out!

Web jargon of the month: link bait

Link Bait

You may have heard the term ‘link bait’ - a genuinely interesting concept sullied by aggressive online marketeers and SEO hacks. Put simply, link bait refers to website content that other sites want to link to (and not because you’ve told them to). Why is this important? Because securing links from other websites is a sure-fire way of getting your website to grow. Successful examples of link bait can include visuals, quizzes and blog entries - all of which entice web users to engage meaningfully with your website. Still scratching your head about link bait? Content Step Internet via email and we’ll help reel in those pesky fishes…or customers.

Content is king

A successful website relies on quality content and a unique insight. Some of the most notorious bloggers and web owners offer an insight that cannot be replicated elsewhere - from politico Guido Fawkes to football finance expert Swiss Ramble. The key to creating any content is to write about what you are passionate about.
