WELCOME

Hi, welcome to my Webpage. My name is Ernesto Villanueva, and I am an economist at the DG Economics, Statistics and Research at Banco de España (BdE), the Central Bank of Spain. Since November 2018, I am the Head of the Microeconomic Studies Division.

Prior to joining BdE, I was an Assistant Professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. I hold a PhD in Economics at Northwestern University.

I work on the implementation of surveys on household finances (EFF) and on financial competences (ECF). I also conduct analysis on the financial situation of households and individuals. My research mainly focuses on the determinants of household saving and borrowing, on different forms of human capital and on the study of wage differentials.
