July 22, 2014-Former Hornet kicker Zak King has been named the Emporia State Director of Athletic Operations and Event Management. He will oversee game management of all Emporia State home events as well as scheduling and maintenance of the Hornet Athletic busses and Emporia State athletic facilities on campus.
"I'm excited to be back with the Hornet athletic department," said King. "Being a student-athlete at Emporia State and then working with Cody Moors and Luke Kriley in operations gave me a good understanding of the inner workings of collegiate athletics."
King was a kicker for the Hornet football team in 2010 and 2011. He was 14 of 24 on field goals in his career and went 63 of 67 on PAT, including a string of 44 straight to end his career. After his playing days he concentrated on finishing his degree in education, working at several elementary schools in the Emporia area as well as Emporia HS. He also assisted the Hornet Athletic Department with several facets of the game day operations.
He was the concession stand manager at the Trusler Sports Complex in the spring of 2013 and helped with the set up and tear down for Emporia State's home football, basketball, baseball, softball and track events. He also assisted with athletic marketing and promotions for those events in 2012-13.
Following his December 2013 graduation from Emporia State, King spent the spring 2014 semester working with special needs students at Emporia Middle School.
"We're excited to have Zak join our Athletics Staff. His work ethic is well proven from his time with our football program, and working for us part-time as he finished his degree," said Emporia State Athletic Director Kent Weiser. "I'm confident he'll serve our coaches and programs well."
King is married to the former Brooke Sisson. He began his full-time duties at Emporai State on July 6.
