Monday will be sunny, but it will feel like the north pole less than seven days to Christmas. Daytime time highs will barely make it to 15°F, and wind chills will be near zero all day. Remember, frostbite can happen quickly, so cover all extremities with gloves, scarves and thick socks. Wearing toe- and hand-warmers and is a good idea, too.

Tuesday will be mostly sunny. Effects from the polar vortex will be felt in the morning with single-digit-temps and wind chills near or below zero. Tuesday afternoon will not be as cold with highs near 25°F.

Winter begins at 5:44 am ET on Wednesday. Clouds will increase in the late afternoon and evening with snow showers developing. Highs will be in the lower middle 30s.

Thursday will be the first full day of winter, and there will be rain and snow showers with temps in the low and middle 30s.

Drier weather returns just before Christmas Eve, Saturday.
