This was such a fun read! If you want to go in completely blind, I highly suggest not reading this review (or any others) until after you finish the book. That said...

******************************************

I must admit the premise of this story is unique; I've not read a novel featuring a married couple where both parties are serial killers, and this had a very distinct Dexter vibe to it. Both Jude and Kate have different reasons for killing, and book one in the trilogy is really almost an introduction and informative backstory to our lead characters. I had no clue where King would take us along the way, and there were many surprising twists and turns that shocked and wowed me.

I truly love how this book ends, because obviously it's left open for the rest of the trilogy, but there was no giant cliffhanger or major unanswered questions; this was more of its own installment which alludes to where the characters will go next in a new story. Hopefully that makes sense! I really enjoyed this one and, at the moment, it is free on kindle for those who would like to try the trilogy without committing to purchase just yet. Highly recommended for fans of suspense with just a hint of dark romance!

Unless I am forgetting, I have never before read a book written in 2nd person POV but now that I have (and LOVED!), I want more! It made 'Water Under The Bridge' seem even creepier than it is (and I mean this in the most flattering way possible). Maybe because I don't read enough physiological thrillers (which is a mistake I plan to rectify in 2017) but I really got a kick out of this story. It creeped me out as much as it blew my mind! I know I keep using the word 'creepy' but this is exactly how I would describe this book. It almost feels like you are reading someone's diary that was left open on purpose and the person who left it for you is watching you through the hole in the wall, plotting ... it really leaves you with that eerie kind of feeling. I can't wait to read the rest of the trilogy to see how the story ends.

Even though NOT your typical romance, it kind of is. Twisted. Sick. Creepy. In a romantic kind of way.

Britney King is a new-to-me author who now has a new fan-for-life!

Cheers!

Just reread this again ready to jump into book two :)

I am a great fan of this author and her books. I read a lot but Bedrock has always stayed with me. It's one book I want to delete from my mind and read again for the first time. I want all those feels again. As soon as I heard she had another book I knew I needed it in my life. I just didn't realise how much I was going to love it.

Kate and Jude are two psychotic killers. This story is told through both of their points of view through inner monologues. For me this took a bit to get used to but once I got stuck in I couldn't think of a better way to read it.

Well I'll apologise for my vague review. When I read this the first time I tried to write a review and I came up with nothing so I do what I rarely do and jumped back in to re read it. As much as I loved the book the re read didn't help with my review as I really don't want to spoil it for anyone. So what I will say is if your looking for a crazy rollercoaster that will have you wondering what you've read then this is the story for you.
I've read lots of dark reads so I wouldn't say this is very dark. However it ain't a sweet romance either. Amazingly great read. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

description

"I can see that you and I suffer the same affliction. We love death."

I was intrigued by the blurb right from the start, because it was really unique. I had no idea what to expect so I went in with an open mind. It was different and the writing style (second person POV/internal monologue) threw me off in the first quarter of the book. It took me some time getting used to it but that didn't take away my interest in the story.

The two main characters Kate and Jude are very different from one another but also share some similarities. First of all they are both killers (I have a strange obsession with them!). While Kate was very impulsive in her behavior, Jude was more calculated and didn't act before thinking things through. However, they both had a very unique upbringing and handled some things the same way. They definitely brought balance and some type of peace to each other. However it didn't all go according plan and there were some major obstacles they had to overcome. When they first met they recognized something in each other, they both felt a connection that they couldn't ignore. Their coming together was inevitable.

Water Under The Bridge can be labeled as a suspenseful book with romantic elements. I was dragged into this story from the start and was intrigued by what would happen to the characters. Like I mentioned before, I had no idea what to expect but was very satisfied with how the story developed and concluded. The characters were very interesting and I wanted to know more about them. There was one loose end that I wish was explained. But nonetheless, I enjoyed this book a lot and will be on the look out for similar type of books.

Have you ever read a book and you're like what am
I reading? Well this was that book.

The book is about a couple who both kill but for different reasons. Its also billed as romance but it really didn't feel like one to me. The writing style was hard for me because I would get confused as to whose point of view I was reading. I found myself having to go back to the beginning of the chapter a few times to make sure I had the right person.

Jude and Kate they both had issues from their childhood. I could understand why Jude killed based on his upbringing. As far as Kate killing people I really don't understand what her deal was 100%. Kate did have some family issues growing up and it would have been nice to have more of a backstory on her parents.

Jude and Kate have both felt that they finally found their missing half. A person who feels the way they do and understand them but I didn't feel their connection at all. Jude and Kate moved way too fast and it just didn't work for me in this story.

The book touches on some dark themes and those parts did hold my interest. There was one twist that shocked me and then we found out it really wasn't a twist and there was no rhyme or reason why Jude did what he did. That was a bummer for me. I wanted to love this book because it looked very good but sadly it just didn't happen.

I love the cover for Water Under The Bridge by Britney King. She designed it herself. It looks like it could be for a paranormal/supernatural novel, but this is so much better. We have not one, but two serial killers!!! And one is female!!! The is a love story like none I have ever read before.

Each chapter starts with a sketch and I like to try and figure out what it’s telling me.

The beginning is tantalizing, teasing me, making me have to know how we got to this point.

“Maybe you would be better off dead and I can’t help but wonder if I have it in me.”

What do you think of that?

Kate wants a divorce. She likes to be in control, but so does he. The judge says six months of counseling. Can you imagine a judge telling two serial killers they have to go to counseling? And then the counselor telling them to write a letter before their next appointment. What do you think would be in the letter? His is titled:

Water Under The Bridge

When they first meet, he never could have anticipated what the future held for them. It made me think of a Criminal Minds episode, you know, when two like minded individuals encounter each other and immediately know WHAT they are, and it ain’t normal.

I am so hooked, from the very beginning, devouring the words, knowing at 11% that I won’t be able to stop until it’s over.

I can’t say much about the story or the characters because it will give away too much of this deliciously evil and wicked story. The characters are so complex, so outside the norm, so twisted. We know they are both serial killers, so to think they can have a normal life is…well…difficult to imagine. Marriage? Children? Can sociopaths love?

Til death us do part may mean an entirely different thing to them.

I had wondered about their first meeting and what would be the outcome. The clues were there for me to figure out from the beginning, but this was a new twist I didn’t anticipate so I missed it. Nice one Britney. I love when an author makes me question my assumptions and Britney does, from the opening pages.

Britney King’s writing is fabulous, creating tension and suspense, the pacing whetting my sense of anticipation. One thing after another after another. I gotta know. I gotta know what comes next.

I find myself falling for these terribly flawed human beings and using the word flawed is putting it mildly! I want a happy ever after for these cold blooded killers.

There are so many wonderful surprises hidden between ‘the pages’ of this awesome, heartpounding, thrill ride. So…you better hold on tight

The ending…how marvelous. I am shocked, left with my mouth hanging open and lovin’ every minute of it. I know an author has come up with some great ideas when I am left feeling lost without more to read. But wait…

Water Under The Bridge by Britney King started out as a solo novel. Now, it will be a trilogy, but each book can stand alone. I am so happy.

Oh I sure did enjoy this book so much! The introductory chapters gave me a different idea of the story and I started predicting the future happenings, but as we proceeded towards the end, I realized that all my theories were wrong.. Oh lord!! This was MAGNIFICENT!!!

Jeez... I don’t know what to speak upon this masterpiece without actually spoiling the book XD

We got two protagonists, Kate (or Lydia) and Jude, both bonded by their sins and blood of others, along with a tom of secrets between them.

TBH, at the start, I thought this book to be a cringe YA romance instead of a thriller, murder-mystery after a few sexual intercourses and some lovey-dovey dates.

I was also annoyed as the bad girl, killer Kate had started to go soft for Jude. But soon after, I started to love the powerful, so-called mafia couple who loved death more than love itself.

They soon thought of marrying each other and they did. Only, it was a lot more awkward and Kate was already 2-3 weeks pregnant before the wedding took place.

These were the middle chapters which I kind of hated. Every now and then Kate would start fussing over something so silly and irritating like... Damn! I have HUGE respect for Jude who could handle her efficiently without killing her.

There were also some emotional parts which created a huge gap between the two. A loss of a child, some unspoken secrets and unforgiving mistakes tore them apart which led Kate to leave Jude and soon, surprise him with divorce papers.

The case went to the court and then to a counseling session from where the story had actually started.

I really liked the fact that both the protagonists had their own POV’s and that had a good impact on the story.

There were still many of my unanswered doubts which are still going through my head but some things should remain secrets, which would soon lead to a part two! :p

And just like my physics teacher says (he really says that)

"Some doubts are better left unanswered for the love of curiosity"

🔎 “What were the answers Kate was seeking? What was the reason for Jude to hide them? Will they ever get back together? Who was the person Jude killed in the start? Was it Kate? Or someone else, someone he had loved?” 🔍

There is SO much more to the story! How Jude found Kate. The secrets they shared and a lot more!!

This was a terrific read and I so love it!

Kudos to the author! This was definitely worth reading!!

Wow…this is the first book I have read by this author but it definitely will not be the last!

Water Under the Bridge was a little hard for me to get into at the beginning due to its unique writing style, second person dual POV with internal monologue (thanks Betul for helping me describe this), but once I got used to it…boy did the characters and story suck me in!!! To the point I was up till 4:00 a.m. finishing it.

Written to not be read as a standalone even though one can definitely choose to do so if they are okay with not having all their questions answered, Britney King does an amazing job intertwining this story with characters not only in her Bedrock Trilogy but also several of her other books. This now has me itching to go read them all to help piece together some of the missing background elements I so badly want to further understand.

Great news for those like me who get sucked in to this dark, mysterious (some might even say romantic) web filled with so many unexpected twists and turns, I have firsthand insight that there is more to come and I for one am chomping at the bits to get my hands on the next book!

Water under the bridge was a unique novel. I thought it was written perfectly and the main characters had this power struggle throughout. Is the story entirely believable? not really....the kills are non-stop with no fear of getting caught. It’s hard to imagine they are never being questioned or making a mistake here and there. But besides this story being “hard to believe” the characters were pretty magnetic and I was easily drawn to them. Enough to buy the second book! 😐 this author is really good at getting into the minds and thoughts of her characters and that’s what made this a good read!

This book was unique in that it was written in second person, and the fact that both husband and wife were murderers (for their own, different reasons). The second person POV took some getting used to, but it added a creepy element to the story and really let the reader inside the character's heads. I could have had more murder and less emotions/banter between the couple, but it was a fun read nevertheless.

After looking at this beautiful cover and reading the blurb, I was instantly hooked. I was really excited to dive into the book, until I started reading.

The way this book was told I couldn't get into. It left me utterly confused.

After chapter three, I had to stop.

OH SWEET MOTHER OF ALL THAT IS HOLY!!! What a MIND F*CK!!! I am not going to give too much of a written review because I think my video review will speak for how twisted this book turned out to be. The only reason the book lost the star was for the start of this series is the writing style is very different and it felt off to me. Jude and Lydia have this way of telling the story about each other instead of what I am use to, speaking about themselves. Other than that this book is F*CKING AMAZING!!! I can't wait to get into the rest of the series!!

Water Under the Bridge is the first book in The Water Series and what a dark and fun read it is to!

The story alternates between Kate and Jude who are more alike than either of them know. They are both killers for a start. I’ve read a few stories to do with serial killers but not two in the story!

I was bit unsure to start with as this two characters are pretty wacko. If you were to sleep with either one you would always be sleeping with one eye open as I wouldn’t trust either as far as I could throw them, which certainly wouldn’t be far. The more I got to know them though, the more I found myself liking them.

Both are highly unpredictable so you never know quite what would be waiting for you with each chapter. With each chapter though, I got to know both better and in some ways made me understand them a bit better. Not that I could condone what they do as killing people obviously isn’t right but it really makes for a fun read.

Water Under the Bridge was an unexpected fun and entertaining read. Never read anything like this story before and so pleased it’s part of a series as I definitely want to read more. If you’re looking for a psychological thriller that is unique with lots of twists and turns, then this is certainly one you want to try.

This book was given to me for an honest review

2 stars

I hate doing these types of reviews. I know that an author works so hard putting down a words to a story that every reader would love, unfortunately this was not a book I could get through. I got about 30 percent through and couldn't read anymore. It felt like whiplash at times. I didn't know who was talking and couldn't get into the story. I did try to make it at least halfway, but I couldn't. The wording didn't help me and I didn't get who was doing what at times. I see that other readers did love this book and I am happy for the author, but for me it just wasn't there. I look for a book that I can immerse myself in and I never was able to with this book. I hope the best for this author.

An interesting take on the thriller genre. Told from alternating viewpoints. Sometimes that style takes me a while to settle into, as I find it can be somewhat repetitive. There were some very good plot twists and character developments that I didn’t see coming that made it a fun read. I’m certainly curious on how this trilogy will unfold!

I really must stop reading this genre. It used to grab me. I suppose this book was a bit different having two narrators, each of them equally unlikeable and implausible. However, I didn’t feel it particularly edifying.

*** I was given an ARC for an honest review. ***

This was an intriguing and interesting novel.  Water under The bridge was an amazing surprise. Totally kick ass.  I was stunned by the way the story was told but I admit it took me a some time to get into it.

I read this book like a diary, about two people who are definitely your usual heroes, describing about their darkest fears, hopes and cravings. And I have to say it was frightening and gave me chills. Written with such straightforwardness, sarcasm and dark humor.

It was very different, from the storyline and narration part. The characters were a pair of deranged psychos, trying to act like normal in this world, wanting to be loved and feel loved. But how could they find a way to find happiness, among all the bodies left behind?

I’m really impressed by Kate and Jude. Kate scared me a lot, more than Jude. She has a way to give you chills, her mind was fascinating and frightening. Messy and uncontrollable.

Jude was more methodical, sharp as a knife. Both different by her lifestyle but sharing the same compulsion and fire.

In a way they both complete each other but have to overcome some obstacles in their journey, to let someone  into their  hearts, no secrets or lies in between. Two serial killers who were trying to be a couple, and destroying everything in their paths.

No one is safe around them  and a pile of corpses following their trail. The pull, connection is too intense with no turning back. I was stepping into the unknown and I was enthralled. I was glad to give this book a try, definitely worth it.

Absolutely enthralling. The writing style drew me in from the moment I picked the book up and I simply couldn’t put it down. I love how this story deals with such complex ground and issues that, in theory, should be against our moral codes. But morality is such a huge concept and it can vary so much from one case to another. It’s obvious from the start that neither Kate nore Jude are exactly the sort of people we’re used to dealing with in everyday life. They both have childhoods that have scarred them in ways most of us can’t begin to imagine and their lifestyles are outside of the norm for sure. What I love most, though, is the way that they understand each other even when people on the outside wouldn’t.

I’m not saying that I support murder because I definitely don’t. But this novel lets you really get into the heads of two people who do see that as an option. The author does an incredible job of explaining their thought processes. In fact, there were times when one or both of them thought something through so thoroughly that I could almost believe that murder was the best option, that they were enacting some sort of vigilante justice in their own way and actually doing society a favor. That makes this both an incredibly interesting story and one that is relatively creepy. Understanding the motivations of such characters so thoroughly can definitely be psychologically chilling. But it’s chilling in a way that I can’t help but love.

My only disappointment was in reaching the end of this one. I want so much more! I know there’s a sequel out and I definitely plan to read and review that one, so stay tuned for that! I’d really love to know more about the Jude and Kate’s histories, though. Psychological development is incredibly interesting to me and, while I recognize that they both endured traumatic events as childhood and I’ve connected some dots to cover the holes in what I know about their past lives, I really do want to know more!

Kate and Jude, upon first sight, immediately know that there is something special and unique about each other that will pull them together. Kate is a bad girl, looking to "settle down", wanting a husband, house, kids.. the works. Here comes Jude, not sure what he wants, besides Kate, but he knows he has to have her. They both have secrets and both like to be in control. Can their intense, obsessive love overcome these issues, or will they find that they bring them closer together even if a power struggle comes into play?

Seen through alternating chapters of Kate and Jude's POVs, we get an in depth glimpse into their psyche and daily struggle, not only within themselves, but with each other. The novel starts with them in court for their pending divorce - but how did they get to this point? Thus begins their tenuous journey from chapter one on, delving into their beginnings and how quickly things can go awry when both people in the relationship are sociopaths. The writing style is different as in there is only a small percentage of dialogue. While I do like to have this, Britney does a fantastic job of keeping you within the story and propelling you from chapter to chapter without it being necessary. And I do LOVE me a sociopathic couple whose bond goes deeper than just keeping house. The novel doesn't seem very plot driven other than seeing their relationship ebb and flow with the ferocity that their personalities ooze... which is the perfect set up for books two and three in this romantic suspense thriller trilogy. I most certainly will be continuing their saga as I love being in the minds of both of them. Love or hate them, Kate and Jude will keep you wondering what they are up to next and when, and if, they can ever stop themselves from giving in to their basic nature. Personally, I hope they don't >:).

Huge thank you to the author for this gorgeous signed copy in return for my honest review.

4/5 Stars!

This may be the craziest book I have ever read! No joke. It was not at all what I thought it would be, but trust me, I am not complaining.

Kate and Jude are killers. Like for real. Both of them are serial killers. They are calculating and smart and I have no idea how they even worked, but they did.

Let me warn you. This book is not like any other book I have ever read. It is written in first person (?) in a stream of consciousness style mostly with thoughts about the other characters. Think use of "you" in place of "I". I don't really know how else to describe it, but it was quite clever and added a layer I wouldn't have thought of. It is told in the alternating POVs of Jude and Kate. These two had each other's numbers, as I imagine only two killers could.

The story is intriguing. The writing is great. The characters are unique and when you don't want to like either of them, you can't help it. I found myself unsure of who to root for, or if I should just not root for either of them. They were so awful to each other at times, but I truly think it was their nature not to trust.

I am sorry if this review is less than organized. It's just that this book has seriously left me with a book hangover that I can't quite contain!

And that is how I know this was one of those unforgettable books!

Why am I such a sucker for Britney King books? I mean seriously, they are about serial killers (in my defense, they are compassionate) and sex. But they draw you in from the beginning and keep you in a choke hold until you are finished! In this one both Kate and Jude are killers for hire (not just random people...well, sometimes random people if you anger them)! They fall in love but of course, both are keeping secrets from the other (c'mon, you have to if you're a killer!) So just know you will be entertained and while it is gritty and raw, it's not entirely gruesome. This is the first in a trilogy so eventually I'll read all three. If you loved the Dexter series, this is your kind of book!

This book is dual points of view from Jude and Kate. Kate is a killer and Jude is a killer but is hired to hunt down Kate and bring her in, instead he falls in love with her. You are hooked from the first words until the very end. It was interesting to see their different points of view on their relationship. The characters are well written and the story flows together nicely. Can't wait to read more from this author.

*ARC REVIEW FROM ABIBLIOPHOBIA ANONYMOUS BOOK REVIEWS*

Water Under The Bridge is definitely a different book than most. It's suspenseful and dark. We get into the minds of psychopaths, literally. There isn't much dialog between Jude and Kate, we're in their head, and I really liked that concept. We get to know them on levels we don't get with other characters and books. It's an interweaving story, never know what's going to happen. It was brilliant!

3.5 stars!!! I have to admit that this book was hard to get into at first, with the story told in the second person it was hard for me to connect with these two as characters, but their story does suit the manner in which it is told. But my thriller kick is still ever present as Britney King delivers the story of Jude and Kate, Jude a contract killer and Kate a woman that kills for fun. Totally unconventional, totally psychotic at times, yet addictive.
