When a Heart Trips is a typical young adult contemporary romance novel and the story is beautifully written. It all starts when the main female character, Devon, so desperately wants a crush that’ll make her heart melt and swoon and get butterflies in her stomach. As a huge nerd, Devon has always been more enthralled by books and fictional boyfriends so when she suddenly realizes her senior high school is coming to an end without her having any real experiences in the romantic areas, she panics. Now she’s determined to find herself the perfect match, a.k.a. the super duper popular football player. However, never would she expect that she’d fall fast and hard for the BEST FRIEND of her perfect match.
Interestingly, Julian is nothing like Devon. Uhh, he’s quite the OPPOSITE of Devon, to be exact, but I guess that’s sort of the point of this whole story. As most readers and reviewers said, this book is indeed a perfect demonstration of the concept called “opposite attracts.” Despite the fact that the slowly burnt romantic relationship between Devon and Julian is something worth swooning over, there’s no toes-curling, heart-melting, or guts-wrenching plot twist. The entire story simply flows naturally and quite smoothly, in my opinion, and that’s why I find it just meh after reading it.
Please don’t get me wrong, the writing is beautiful and the romantic elements are pure perfection, so technically, this book is definitely worth a read. It’s just that I’d appreciate more if there could be something delicious and unpredictable to anticipate and simply add more spice to the reading experience.
All in all, I’d still recommend When a Heart Trips for anyone who’s looking for a sweet, light-hearted, swoon-worthy romance about first love and silly mistakes. Of course, I hope you’ll like this book more than I do and don’t forget to let me know what you think afterwards. 🙂

What a cute young adult romance! I loved every minute of this story. Devon e has never bothered with boys. She decides it's time to put the books to the side and focus on a crush. Well she learns life doesn't go the way you planned. She ends up falling for the best friend of the guy she had her eyes on. Julian is totally the opposite of Devon. But love doesn't have a preference. They fall fast and are proof that opposites attract. This was such an adorable story. The perfect young adult romance. I highly recommend it to all romance fans. And get ready to laugh out loud. This book is everything you want in a heart warming romance.

Devon has always been more interested in books than boys but since this is her last year of high school she has decided that the time is now to have the whole high school experience and that includes dating and everything that goes along with it. She and her best friend have come up with the perfect choice but things take a turn when she attracts the attention of his best friend instead.
Julian is a popular football player who couldn’t be more different from Devon but from their first casual encounter he knew that she was special, and he is prepared to court her so that she knows it as well.

When a Heart Trips by Dominique Laura is a sweet YA romance. Devon is a senior in high school and has never had a crush. She wants to experience the feelings that come with having a crush, so she sets out to find someone to have a crush on with the help of her best friend Erin. They initially choose Braxton, a popular football player in their grade, but Devon bumps into Julian, his best friend, first and feels a connection to him instead. Devon and Julian both like each other and begin to date. Devon realizes that she has begun having real feelings for Jules, which is not what she had initially planned. I liked this opposites attract story. Devon is very studious and loves books, whereas Jules plays football and doesn't like reading. The dates they went on were adorable and I loved seeing their connection. Jules is seriously the best. There wasn't any drama, and no real conflicts in this book, which made it less interesting to me. The book takes place over the course of their senior year in high school, and Devon and Jules meet in the fall. The ending was a little sudden, and I wanted more about their time deciding what to do after high school and their time in college, just something more. They were an unproblematic couple and there wasn't much more to the story than them dating and progressing in their relationship. I did love reading this, however, and finished it in a day. Overall it was a really sweet and cute YA book.

I was sent an arc copy of When A Heart Trips by @Dominiquelaurawrites in exchange for an honest review and this honestly was such a fun read.
I devoured this book in about a day, two days tops and was overall very happy with the read. I do think there was a bit of insta love but it was done in a way to where I wasn’t too bothered by it. I really loved Devons best friend, as I thought she was so funny and kept the books funny and light hearted and the overall romance was so perfect and speaks volumes on first love and teenage romance.
Overall I gave this book a 3/5 stars on goodreads and would definitely recommend for a cute, sweet summer read if you’re in the mood for something quick but to satisfy your romance mood.
I’m so happy to have been apart of this and to have been able to read this story. I’ll definitely be checking out more books from Dominique in the future and can’t wait to see what more she has in store.

2.5 stars. When a Heart Trips is an adorable YA love story between Devon and Julian. When 17 year old Devon decides she’s ready for a senior year crush, she bumps into Julian (literally) and slowly starts to fall in love. Devon is sweet but nervous, and battles her anxiety throughout the book. Julian is her perfect match - funny, outgoing, and patient. Their love story blossoms through this sweet story.
I wanted to love this and fall right in: the writing is great, the characters are perfect, there isn’t any of the ridiculous petty high school stuff. Unfortunately, I just couldn’t get into it. It could be the time we’re in right now, it could be that the book felt VERY YA (which unless it’s fantasy YA, I’m starting to move away from), or it could be the lack of strong climax (I don’t always love drama but this has literally none). But, if you like adorable, no drama YA then this will literally be the perfect book for you.

Julian is on the football team and Devon is pretty much a bookworm. Devon decides that at the age of seventeen she wants to learn what its like to have a crush. After doing a compatibility test at school she decides to try this crush thing out on the person that’s at the top of her list. Little did she know fate would have her crashing into Julian and changing her whole world.
These two are the cutest couple ever. Julian is full of confidence and a football star while Devon is the awkward nerd that’s always hiding in a book. Their story is so super sweet and just full of butterflies and rainbows. It’s just such a sweet love story of young innocent love at its best. I totally loved this book and I definitely recommend it if your looking for a beautiful young love story with all the feels in it.

This week has me reading very emotional stories which were completely heavy, so When a Heart Trips is a delightful break from all the heavy. It's a young adult story with was super sweet, and even had me laughing quite a bit. Devon is a bookworm who has basically missed out on her high school years, so when her last year comes up, she & her bestie come up with a plan so she can actually start dating. Little did she know that the popular football player, Julian, would be a key part of it. They're complete opposites, yet, he knows she's special from their first encounter, so let the fun begin. How does it all play out?! Please don't miss out by not hitting those one click buttons because I'm HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDING TO ALL!

Devon is in her senior year and has never had a crush. She's never kissed anyone or gone on a date or even held hands. When a "perfect match" forms goes out and she comes back with her perfect match as the head jock she doesn't think anything of it. And then she runs into his best friend, Julian, and that crush blooms from a crush to love pretty quickly.
This is a cute read. It's a bit religious heavy for me, and the pacing wasn't perfect (dragging in some areas and rushing in others), but overall a decent cute and quick read.

I was in the mood for YA so this was cute. Very sweet, easy (no drama) and a quick read (I read it in and afternoon.) Julian and Devon were good for each other and he was everything you want in a YAA BBF. The characters could have used a little more depth though - like we never knew what they were going to study in college or what their interest were (other than football). And she never met his parents which I thought was weird. But overall it was enjoyable.

When the Heart Trips is my first book by Dominique Laura and it's a story I enjoyed reading.
It's about young love and learning to deal with the feelings associated with it. Devon and Julian are both seniors in high school and when they meet theres an instant attraction. They are polar opposites but together you see them grow and learn to love.
An enjoyable YA read, and Dominique Laura is an author I will read again in the future.

I really liked this story. I’m so used to reading stories with so much drama that it was very refreshing to read a love story like this.
Julian is the sweetest guy I’ve ever read about. Omg as soon as they bumped into each other I knew I was going to fall in love.

After spending most of her life wrapped up in her books, Devon decides that she is ready for a crush. Little did she know that everything she never knew she always wanted, bumps into her when she least expects it. Julian is not what Devon was expecting, but that makes it more fun!! This book was sweet and adorable!!

A beautiful, sweet HEA with a few twists. 💙💙 Devon and Julian are incredible together, and with the help of Dev's best friend Erin, the pair work their way through senior year of high school learning about love, each other, and their happiness.

You ever had a crush in high school or do you remember your first crush ? When A Heart Trips by Dominique Laura was so sweet and fun . It reminded me of when I was in high school all the memories came flooding back as I read this book. This book was light, fun and sweet . #ARC

This was a sweet YA romance Devin and Julian are cute. Devon is a bookworm who is all about the grade, til she decides to have fun but the one she has her eye on isnt the one to turn it. This is the perfect opposite attraction romance.

This was the most refreshing YA book of 2020. Dominique Laura fantastic writing was why this book so good!! Devon age 17 wants to find her crush so her and her friend Erin go to a football game she runs into Jules and at the kickback party the same happens from there everything happens so quickly as her heart trips!!
