We recently held a Celebration of Life for my husband. I was having difficulty with getting the PowerPoint slide show to play when we brought it in to check the system. It did not work due to my issues with my laptop. Jenn and Darryl worked hard to ensure the problem was found and then how to resolve it. The event itself went very well, they made sure I had all the display tables I needed, the food was wonderful, the support staff took it upon themselves to provide some distraction items for the two toddlers whose energy needed redirecting. That alone was a big relief for the speakers. It was a heartfelt, and moving Celebration of Life. The scenery and atmosphere made it all the more better. I would highly recommend The Tumwater Ballroom for group events.

As previous posters have said, the views are gorgeous and the space is affordable. The issues really come down to accountability.
I was overcharged $1150. Darryl has been difficult to deal with and lacks any follow through. I've received numerous excuses and 0 real reasons. Initial claim was that it was due to the bar... but we had a cash bar, then it was staffing fees - those were already accounted for in the contract, then it was a tip.. but unfortunately my receipt proved that wrong.
It's created extra stress over a day we wished was the end of a grieving process. Great views, but be very careful here as no one is accountable.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lori B.Westchester, Los Angeles, CA011Jul 12, 2023

We would love to send you and your staff a very big thank you. You all did an amazing job with all of the details for our wedding. You and your staff are amazing and very professional. Everything was beautiful including the food, setup, and cupcakes/cake. The room looked amazing and especially since you went above and beyond to get us purple table cloths. Once again we would love to say thank you for making our wedding day so very special from the very first time we met with you to the actual day of our wedding.
What a beautiful setting as the setup was amazing and the views could not have been better. I would totally recommend this venue to anyone that will be getting married or any other events that you need banquet space.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tamera C.Battle Ground, WA4522Oct 16, 2020
This venue is lovely for a wedding. The ballroom is light and you can see the falls. The kitchen facility worked well. The room for the bride to get ready is on the first floor. It's nice. They have an elevator to the ballroom on the third floor.

Sincere Do Not Recommend.
There's another review by Jessica H which shares very similar experiences to what we went through, but ours had the additional stress of a negative event by a couple of our guests in the wonderful museum (frustrating and irresponsible behavior which I condemn) which led to threats by the owner of Sugar Street (Darrell) to have them arrested, and refusal to return our deposit without any itemization of the expenses. When I told Darrell I'd like to take care of the issue and then address some issues we had with our reception, his response was "I anticipated you bringing up issues at the wedding that would justify the damages in the museum. Very common practice for people to say "Well you did this...!"
Immature and not cool."
Actually what's not cool is we have a laundry list of things they did wrong on our special day, causing much added stress, but because I asked for some accountability on why he was keeping our entire deposit, he refused to believe my concerns were valid.
If you decide to proceed here anyway because of the beauty of the space and the relatively good price, know that Darrell agrees to a lot of things but doesn't track them so they might not show up on your special day. Get everything in writing (not just the email exchanges) and possibly send a documented list the day before to confirm. We unfortunately assumed that he was the professional and would track all of the things he promised. I'd be happy to share more details with you if you want specifics.
TL;DR: if you want your day to go off without a hitch and be the one you've always dreamed of, shop around, and find a professional who is willing to keep their word.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - michael s.Sherwood - Tualatin South, Durham, OR02May 13, 2022

What a great place to experience many of the assets of historic Oregon City! Tumwater Room offers a terrific dining and meeting venue, breathtaking views of Willamette Falls and a room displaying the story of the pioneers and the Oregon Trail. A favorite place for all.

As a wedding officiant, I have performed weddings at just about every venue in the Metro area. I can honestly say that The Tumwater Room is one of my favorites. The view of the Willamette Falls can't be beat! The service is friendly and professional. The vaulted ceilings and tons of natural light makes every event look elegant. I've hosted Holiday parties, weddings, retirement parties, elopements, planning committee meetings and networking meetings at this venue. Each event ran smoothly and was enjoyable. There is plenty of parking and a wonderful Museum of the Oregon Territory on the 2nd floor that is open to guests. This place has it all. Even though they welcome outside caters, my favorite has been their in-house company which is Alimenti Catering and also desserts by Cookies, Cupcakes & More. I hope to perform many more weddings there this year. Yesterday's was fantastic!
