Gone are the banjos, boots and braces – these days Marcus Mumford’s travelling band are marching into Coldplay territory with their big choruses and electronic flourishes. Their West London public school education and cod-Steinbeck aesthetic were always going to make them an easy target for the haters, but having headlined both Glastonbury and Reading Festival in the last few years, they know how to put on a show – and it’s easy to fall for their warm, surging bluster in a live setting.
