CITRUS BELT LEAGUE

Redlands’ Juanita Webster took a fall in the 300 hurdles during Monday’s Citrus Belt League track and field prelims on Monday.

On Thursday, in the CBL finals, Webster broke the league record in the same event.

Webster, who still managed to get up and finish the preliminary event, was in peak form for her record-setting run. She registered a 44.12, defeating a stellar field that included runner-up Kayla Washington of Cajon (47.14) and Tristen Kilman of Yucaipa (47.2).

Webster’s win was one of the high moments for Redlands. There was a low for the Terriers, however, that jarred the team. RHS’ girls 4×100 relay team failed to advance to CIF, hard to believe with such speedsters as Euricce Lesure, Margaux Jones, Noel Baham and Webster. But a dropped baton on the final exchange ruined the foursome’s bid for a fourth straight relay league title.

Jones went on to win the 100 (11.88), Baham went on to win the 200 and Webster won her hurdles event.

Baham put the relay loss behind her with a blistering run in the 200, making her a three-time champion in that event.

HACIENDA LEAGUE

Heat is normally not conducive to top performances in track and field. Thursday was the exception.

Temperatures which soared near 100 degrees did little to stop the efforts of area athletes competing at the Hacienda League finals at Diamond Bar High School.

Bonita High School’s Marissa Scott broke stadium marks in the 800 and 1,600 as seven stadium records fell and 10 athletes won two events each.

Also setting stadium records were Diamond Bar’s Udodiri Okwandu in the girls 200; Bonita’s Mackenzie Landa in the 3,200, Rowland’s David Galvez in the 800 and 1,600 and Los Altos’ Mark Huizar in the 3,200.

The other double winners were Bonita’s Nikki Wheatley in the long jump and triple jump and Devin Rutherford in the 200 and 400; Los Altos’ Gabriel Aceves in the 110 and 300 hurdles; Rowland’s Devin Thompson in the long jump and triple jump and Desdrith Mejia in the 100 and 300 hurdles;

Walnut’s Andres Shen in the shot put and discus and Carolyn Nguyen in the discus and shot put and Okawandu, who also won the 100.
