Spice Girl turned fashion designer Victoria Beckham has reportedly added to her ever-expanding empire by purchasing a Spar supermarket in Battersea.

The double-fronted shop, which measures up to 850 sq ft, is located in Battersea Park Road and is within walking distance of her offices near Battersea Park.

Perhaps the lure of one of the area's finest gourmet restaurants - Dallas Chicken and Ribs - proved too strong for the former popstrell who is known to frequent some of the capital's finest eateries.

In any case Mrs Beckham might think to reinvest some of her millions in the wide selection of neighbouring businesses.

Battersea Carpets, the suburb's foremost carpet, vinyl and wood flooring specialist, are right next door and could offer her new a discounted rate.

Posh Spice's mountain of dry cleaning could also be taken care of by one two neighbouring firms, Battersea Dry Cleaning and Hazle Dry Cleaners.

The mother-of-four can certainly expect a warm welcome at The Secret Garden pub, opposite the Spar, which has a relaxing outdoor space.

The surprising news story was reported in several national newspapers this morning.

A source has reportedly said: "Victoria’s range is going from strength to strength, and expanding at a phenomenal rate.

"Quite simply, she desperately needs more space. She’s been looking at disused warehouses and shops for some time and heard the Spar newsagent around the corner had come on the market.

"Whilst it’s not the most glamorous of operating spaces, it is functional and, once renovated, will provide a perfect base.

"Obviously she hasn’t bought it as her inaugural flagship store but she will be using it primarily as extra work space for her rapidly growing team.

"Victoria is a canny businesswoman and has negotiated a great deal for herself."

Spar have been contacted but have yet to respond with an official statement clarifying the situation.
