An inheritance brought him more than he ever could have imagined…

Reno Marks, one of the new owners of the Scandals Investigation Agency, is first on the case to help Jennifer Caldwell find her missing sister, Angie. It’s not that he’s anxious to help so much as it is that he is attracted to Jenny. A little research shows that Angie has run off for a quickie vacation with her new boyfriend. Reno and Jenny’s romantic evening is cut short when that new boyfriend, who just happens to be the son of a powerful drug lord, arrives on Jenny’s doorstep with near-fatal gunshot wounds and evidence that Angie has been taken hostage by a rival Mexican drug cartel.
With the help of a rogue DEA agent, Reno and Jenny set off to infiltrate the cartel’s desert compound and bring Angie home. Their mission quickly gets out of control as they are discovered and chased through a tunnel system that threatens to bury them alive. Even when they think they’re safe, they’re actually trespassing in an even more dangerous place where everyone wants them dead.
During their intense time together, Reno’s feelings for Jenny have grown, but even if they are able to survive, is it possible for these two lost souls to have a future together?
Reno, whose last job had been as a magician in Vegas, doesn’t have enough tricks up his sleeve to save them…or to convince Jenny to stay.

Kathy Clark has always been a storyteller. She completed her first novel when she was four years old and self-published it the same year. The Little Black Horse That Ran Away was self-illustrated and sold out of its first printing. Thanks Mom!

Since then, a total of twenty-three novels published by Dell, Crown, and Harlequin happened. With her husband Bob Wernly as a co-writer, they published (both traditionally and epub) an additional fourteen novels.

Nine of these fourteen books were self-published in the romantic suspense, young adult and erotic romance genres. The remaining five published by Random House LLC as the Denver Heroes and Austin Heroes, released in 2015 and throughout 2016.

The author team are currently developing a new contemporary romance series (with a suspense backdrop) titled Breathless. High altitude, high stakes, and high romance, the series will begin in 2017 with the first book, Fools Gold . The series is set in Cripple Creek, Colorado.

Their young adult genre series, Time Shifters, is a time travel romance-mystery series. The fifth book in the award winning series, Not My Life releases 10.18.16.

Finally, their new adult romantic suspense series, Scandals, currently has the first three books released.

With two people developing ideas, plotting, researching, writing and editing, Kathy and Bob are both busy and productive. To be perfectly honest, Kathy and Bob would rather be riding horses, sitting on a sandy beach, watching movies or plays, and playing a round of golf every few days. But the voices in their heads insist on coming out, so they keep writing.

Your typical sleazy private detective. Reno Marks, former resident of Las Vegas, has had more than his share of women and one night stands and seems proud of that fact. When Jenny Caldwell walks into the office of Scandals Investigation Agency, Reno accepts her case, free of charge, simply so he can get to know her better. But there is more to Reno than meets the eye, even more than Reno thought possible. Jenny may be petite but she is a woman of strong character that draws Reno in. He finds that he respects her as much as he yearns to feel her curves against him, and this fact alone amazes him.

Don't get me wrong though, this is not just some fluffy romance. Angela, Jenny's sister, is missing - kidnapped by a drug cartel. Neither the local police department nor the Feds are willing to schedule a sting operation to go rescue her. It is up to Jenny to free her own sister, with the help of Scandals investigators and one rogue DEA agent, who is a friend of the family.

This series seems very interesting. Five siblings, who knew nothing of the others, are brought together when their father passes away and leaves them a substantial inheritance. I also have to give author Kathy Clark kudos for this book. I imagine it cannot be easy to write from a man's perspective, as a woman, and Clark does an excellent job of this. None of his inner thoughts ring false or overly feminine.

I do not recall any editing errors that could not be contributed to formatting issues, which is fairly rare among self published books unfortunately and a welcome change. I highly recommend this book to readers who may enjoy romance but prefer a bit of meat to the plots of the novels they read. The author recommends this book only to those 18 and older and I will repeat this caution as I do often review books that are suitable for young adults.

Killer Date is the second novel in Kathy Clark’s Scandals series, but it works well as a stand-alone young-adult romantic suspense, and I enjoyed it very much despite not having read the first. The series centers around an unlikely group of half-brothers and sisters, children of different mothers, who somehow inherit their estranged father’s detective agency, mansion, eye-color and more. They’re a cool bunch – a seriously grown-up Secret Seven or Famous Five perhaps (or Scooby and co – am I showing my age?). And stage magician Reno makes a great protagonist for this tale.

Reno has stage presence, skills with deflection and minor explosions, and a deep unwillingness to commit to anyone because everyone always leaves. Jenny has great memories of family life, and a missing sister. When Reno and co are hired to find the sister, Reno finds his stage persona crumbling under a serious temptation to like a girl who’s not his type. Meanwhile Jenny just might be falling for him. And Jenny’s sister might be falling into serious trouble.

Danger comes knocking at the door after a perfect date, and fast action ensues, pitting federal cutbacks against drug cartels, and revealing Reno’s hidden depths – perhaps even his hidden self. Sensual and detailed romance scenes fit very naturally into that has as much romantic suspense as it does suspenseful danger, and Killer Date is fast exciting read that will definitely leave you looking for more, and just might provide a touch of food for thought.

Disclosure: I was given a free ecopy and I offer my honest review, with apologies for taking so long to get to it.

Enjoying getting to know these great bunch of kids, each of them with their own story and backgrounds but all have their Dad in common.

We met them in Killeen's story Due Date and we catch up with them all in Reno's story, a young lady comes into the Investigation agency, Scandals which was set up by their Dad, Roger.

Discretion is the key. The siblings have a lot to learn about the agency, but they all appear to be settling in OK.

Jenny the young lady, comes into the agency looking for her missing sister.

I love the suspense and thrill of what's coming next, the siblings all seem to have an area they excel in.

Reno helps Jenny when things take a sinister twist, and they go on an adventure, edge of the seat stuff.

It was probably just me but it was a little slow at the start but after about 35% in I was hooked and could not put it down.

The next book is about badass Tulsa, can't wait to find out more about her and to see what's in store.

Loved catching up with them all and that Reno got what he wanted and deserved. Looking forward to see how he and Jenny develop.

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

I am really enjoying this group of siblings who had no idea they even had siblings. You do need to read book 1 before this one but I promise you no cliffy's.

This book is about Reno who was formerly a magician now is working in Scandals a private investigation office which he now owns with his siblings. The story is about Reno and Jenny. Jenny walks into Scandals asking for help to find her sister. What the find out is Jenny's sister Angie doesn't tell her sister everything. You will be pulled through a whole series of events that are well written.

This is more of a suspense than romance. There are some sexual parts but not many. I like the author's writing style and I think this is a good read.

I don't understand the cover though? Why show a sexy male when you don't go into too much detail. I think there could have been more romance and even a little humor to make this book 5 stars.

Will I read the next? yes.

I read the first book as an ARC, to give it an honest review after reading. And I really liked it, so when the second book was out, I HAD to buy it.
Okay so I bought it but, I really don’t know why, I did not read it until today.
In the first book I thought that Reno was a really fun guy, but deep down I was more curious about Tulsa. But as I read this book, I LOVED Reno. He is fun, sensitive and soo nice….
So, more about the book… it starts when the first stopped, Killeen and Christopher cute as ever and the brothers and sisters adapting their new life.

****SPOILER****
I wish we had more about Reno and Jenny… the book ends in the best part. Maybe the in the third book…

I totally love action books. These types of books draw me right. Lately, that’s all the books I’ve read had in them except this one. Killer Date houses a great romance that kept me following the story until the very end. I loved the suspense and keep in mind with this author, they don’t let you know who did it very easily. Great book!

Action packed book involving a Mexican drug cartel, getting lost in a cave, escaping from Mexican Federales, and learning to love someone. I liked this book and cannot wait for the next book in the series.

So this is Reno's story. I wanted more about him and less about a drug cartel. But clearly this series is strong on the suspense element and weak on the romance.

Jenny goes to Scandals because her sister's missing; Reno's instantly interested in her and the case and things get interesting between them but not before there's a man shows up at her doorstep shot and bleeding and who knows her sister. We learn more about Dallas in this one, but not enough to make him intriguing.

There's a side story in this THAT IS NEVER RESOLVED, involving the owner of the mansion, his college-age daughter and a rape, but we only can read about it if we sign up for the author's newsletter, the idea of which I found distasteful.

This is the last I read by this author.

Can be read separate

Like this series. Enough romance without a lot details, enough to dream of. Enough action to keep you on edge of seat. Goes through some history of first series to keep you on loop

Decent follow up book

The first book was excellent. I downloaded the second book immediately but was slightly disappointed. Still a good read just not quite as good as the first book. It is a refreshing change to the standard, worn out fluffy romance novel.
