Primers are mentioned in this months beauty tips, does anyone use them? I am looking for something to make my foundation last longer.

I have tried primers but dont know if I wasnt applying correctly but I dont like them.

I use eye cream, moisturiser, then primer, foundation and loose translucent powder and blusher.
It stays on all day and looks very natural.

I use Clarins Instant Smooth Primer (approx. £24) last ages and its brilliant at smoothing out crows feet and fine lines also helps foundation go on more smoothly.

PS My friend calls it Morticians wax!!

I have never used a primer just Clarins Beauty Flash Balm before foundation, however, morticians wax could be what's needed now!

I'll be giving it a try Teetime grin

I've used Avon's face Primer but it made no difference really I am just using BB cream in a fair shade it keeps the skin looking natural with a hint of colour,I'll use the darker shade as the winter comes in to add a wee bit more colour.

I sometimes how I'd look with a perfectly smooth unblemished skin but I couldn't bear all that stuff on my face so I'll have to stay au naturale.;-)

Yikes! I slap on a squeeze of apply a touch of tinted moisturiser in the morning and think 'job done'!

Ought I be doing more?

Teetime Fri 24-Oct-14 11:55:29

Not unless you want to anya. I enjoy wearing make up and it makes me look more alive than my usual deathly pallor especially in the winter. I like all the fiddling about with it but not everyone does. I do think we probably all need some moisturiser and some sun protection if we spend much time in the garden, outdoors or in my case the golf course. After that it's horses for courses and according to budget.

I try to avoid the 'bright-eyed and bushy-tailed' look Teetime (understand your name now, thought it was a misspelled references to tea and biscuits!) as when I look pale and wan my family hesitate to make outrageous demands on my time to ask too much from me wink

Thank you everyone.

I only use Boots or Clinique foundation, perhaps I will pop along to their beauty counters and ask if I can try before I buy, intriqued by the morticians wax look, maybe just what I need before I have a night out.

I always use a primer and once I have finished my make I use a fixing spray which sets the makeup. I have tried out a few primers before finding one that suits my skin. A few days ago I went to the YSL counter and had my face made up with their new foundation but I didn't like the primer that she used - it made my skin and the foundation feel tacky.

You might be right cantgetoutofabunkeryosaveherlife

My daughter stole some from the chemists when she was a baby - I did pay for it! I had to, she dropped it and the pot smashed...

Anyway, it's excellent for evening out the skin, large pores etc.

I tried the Clarins Flash Balm but was disappointed with it, however I know lot of women swear by it.

I use Estee Lauder Doublewear Foundation and Powder and I am pleased with the results, really does last all day.

I faithfully used Elizabeth Arden face balm but it became prohibitively expensive. Now i treat my face, elbows feet and anywhere else to a good smear of Nivea Soft. It is lovely, does the job and cheap as chips!

Nonu Fri 24-Oct-14 16:58:52

I use DOUBLEWear foundation too, on occasions when I want a ^LASTING coverage and find it is marvellous, pricy I know but then you get what you pays for !!
laugh!

Valbeasixties Fri 24-Oct-14 17:12:13

I discovered Primer about two years ago and have used it ever since. My favourite one is Rimmel and I usually buy it online so it is not very expensive. However, I have tried Max Factor's Primer but it does not seem to blend in smoothly and is less cost effective. Primer helps my foundation glide on and gives my skin a sort of dewy look and feel which I like.

Lona Fri 24-Oct-14 17:19:58

The primer I use is by Gosh, and it feels like silk on my face, which makes foundation glide on just like Valbe ^^ up there. smile

I like Boots No.7 Airbrush Away Primer (now called Instant Illusions), but went to Debenhams today and bought some Clarins Instant Smooth Primer as I had money left on a gift card.

The Salesperson also gave me some free samples of other Clarins products - lovely!
