I enjoyed this class and learned a lot. Seemi is an excellent, inspirational instructor. If you, like me, are interested in the Arabic language/Arab culture, I highly recommend to take this class/ARBC in general.

Seemi is a good prof in the sense that she seems to care about the well being of the students. but she has obvious favourites and marks are effected as a result. I feel like I'm back in high school when I am in her class. Would not take her class again

Seemi's class is the first class I scored an A is. She is super helpful and even though I had very basic knowledge going into this class she was super detailed in her teaching style and had a good pace. She gave lots of practice and her tests were really easy. One of the best profs at UBC!

Cares a lot about the topic and her students, but isn't organized. Taken 12 credits language with her and she's very understanding if you're ill or need more practice or don't understand material. Upper level classes are extremely difficult (obvs. its classical arbc). Even if you don't understand 60% grammar you can still pass via memorization.

She really took time to help me with my slow progression in the new language. She definitely put the time in to help me.

Great class if you can commit to doing the homework to keep up with lessons. It's totally reasonable and you get to work with other classmates which makes it easier to learn. You're learning a new language so you need the repetition. Seemi's great at explaining and so patient and caring. She really knows what she's talking about. Would recommend.

Seemi can be a bit disorganized but honestly it makes the class that much more flexible and a comfortable space to actually learn. She is so willing to adapt and slow down or quicken the pace based on what students need. More room to explore and practice. At the end of the day she wants you to actually learn something and will do whatever it takes.

Learning with Seemi is a transcendent experience. Its how education should be. She merges the learning material with history, pedagogy and real life experiences and wisdom. Her class is lighthearted and fun but such a safe space to explore the Arabic language in both its technicalities as well as its deeper significance and meaning. LOVE HER.

Arabic is a hard language to learn. But by some magic or miracle, by the end of the class, everybody (native English speakers or otherwise) can read and write and begin to understand. If youre going to learn Arabic from anybody, its Seemi. Amazing prof, so patient and flexible.

I took a chance signing up for this class, but it sorta changed my life! Seemi's method is amazing and inspirational, especially if you have a thirst for knowledge and love a puzzle. Seemi teaches you how to read, write and translate Classical Arabic, a great foundation for continuing to learn spoken/colloquial Arabic. Recommended.

Seemi makes the class do a lot of group practice work on the white boards which I found intimidating at the beginning. But all the students are so supportive and Seemi pairs you up with students with different levels of Arabic knowledge. So it ended up being a great way for me to learn. If you do the work and participate, the class is a breeze.

I didnt do my best on the first test and was pretty sad but Seemi helped me understand where I went wrong and stayed with me so patiently during office hours and replying to my emails till I got it. She also took into consideration that I did better on my homework than my exams. She always is so ready to accommodate. Never had a more caring prof.

I dont get the negative reviews on here. Seemi had a really tough school year last year with her dad being really ill and several of her friends having cancer or other illnesses. We were always left with more than we needed to feel prepared for exams and we could always ask for help. She went to the final and missed a memorial because she cares!!

Put in the effort and theres no way youll do bad. The exams are so fair in what they expect and so is her marking style. Just go to class and try. She also looks at your homework from the term if you perform better on that than the exams; she cares if you LEARN and TRY. Solid class, would take any of her classes in the future.

If you show up to class and actually do the practice questions/homework, theres no way youll fail. Seemi goes over everything you need to know, slows down if you need to catch up, breaks down complicated concepts so well and is always an email away. Arabic is a hard language to learn but its never been easier thanks to Seemi! Would take again!

I took both of Seemis 200 levels and it was the best choice Ive ever made. I feel like I LEARNED something; she breaks everything down so well. Shes available by email or in person ALWAYS. Even when her father was very very sick and she had to travel, she only missed 2 days and left us with not only inclass support but outside final exam review!

Seemi isn't just a professor - she's a guide, scholarly and spiritually. She makes a language class so inspiring. In 1.5 hours, you might cover history, literature, religion, spirituality & mysticism, poetry... She connects with the class on another level. She's not just what every professor should strive to be, but every human. We love you Seemi!

Seemi is the kindest professor I've ever had. Besides being an amazing teacher and taking time to make sure everyone understands and feels comfortable with the educational material, she is extremely inspirational. She really cares and shares amazing stories that keep the class engaged and feel like they can relate to everything we're learning.

Out of my 3 years at UBC, Seemi is easily my favourite professor. She is very considerate of the needs and pacing of individual students; she understands that students understand/study in different ways and at different rates. She breaks down every thing you need to know, goes over expectations before exams + explains afterwards. I 110% recommend.
