LAFD ALERT is a public service of
the Los Angeles Fire Department

LAFD ALERT is a text message service that seeks to offer timely notification of newsworthy Fire Department incidents throughout the City of Los Angeles.

LAFD ALERT is for public interest, and does *NOT* constitute an official warning or advisory system. Messages are *NOT* official instructions, permission or encouragement to take action. There is no guarantee as to the frequency, timeliness or accuracy of postings. Most information will develop over time, and we discourage speculation.

LAFD ALERTs include: a tentative incident address with Google Map link and Fire Station (FS) district. Along with a brief narrative, we include the LAFD Radio Channels assigned to the incident. Within the initial message [only], is a timestamp in local time, indicating when the first call was received via 9-1-1. The name of the LAFD member who sent the message appears at the end of each alert.

There are many ways to receive or view LAFD ALERT messages. Below is an example from the @LAFD Twitter account:
IMPORTANT: There may be multiple messages (with updates of key details) for the benefit of news media. Those receiving LAFD ALERTs via wireless device may incur personal charges based upon their carrier data plan. You may wish to view the on-line archive of LAFD ALERT messages to determine if this otherwise free system is right for you.
