Monday, March 11- Advocacy Day for Public School Finance/Education Equality (potentially a rally too)
We will be urging state officials to consider passing a public finance reform that funds Texas schools and provide equitable education for all students.
Thursday, March 14- Rally and Advocacy Day for Immigrant Families (in partnership with Reform for Immigration Texas Alliance coalition and Fiel Houston)
We will be ensuring the elected officials pass bills that protect immigrant families from separation, detention, and deportation (without reasonable cause) and ask to repeal discrimination laws such as SB4 (passed in 2017)
On both of these days, we will leave early in the morning (5-6am) and arrive in the late evening (7-9pm). Transportation is FREE. We will provide at least one meal, snacks, and water throughout the day.
**These days coincide with Cy-Fair ISD, HISD, SBISD, FBISD, YesPrep, and Harmony-SL's Spring Break so you will not miss any school days.**
Saturday, March 30- Crystal City/Dilley pilgrimage and protest
We will make a pilgrimage from across the country to the former site of the Crystal City Family Internment Camp where innocent people of Japanese ancestry were held for indefinite detention during WWII. More than 4,000 men, women, and children were incarcerated as a result of racism, wartime hysteria, and the failure of political leadership. The pilgrimage will honor all who suffered the long-term social, economic, and psychological consequences of unjust incarceration. We will hold in our hearts, gratitude for the strength and resilience that has been passed on to us. Forty miles away from our pilgrimage site is the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley, Texas where mothers and children are being incarcerated while seeking asylum in the United States. We protest the criminalizing of innocent people who are seeking legal means for protection in our country. It is our intent to speak our truth and loudly register our protest against the frightening repetition of mass incarceration of innocent people.
