PM's backdoor deputy ministers

vox populi small thumbnail 'So the Port Klang Free Zone fiasco will be buried together with the former transport minister. Where is the accountability and transparency?'

Mini-cabinet reshuffle, four senators in

Multi Racial: The removal of OTK (Ong Tee Keat) and replaced with tainted Chor Chee Heung ( housing and local government minister) will make things worse for BN. If they were to retain OTK then it shows the government is serious about getting to the bottom of the PKFZ (Port Klang Free Zone) scandal.

Not only did they remove OTK, they replace him with Chor, who is one of the several politicians alleged to be involved in the scandal. Tiong King Sing can now claim he is the real master of all, including Najib, who have to kowtow to the tycoon-cum-Bintulu MP.

All For The Road: So the Port Klang Free Zone fiasco will be buried together with the former transport minister. Where is the accountability and transparency?

Concerns: The reshuffle is full of backdoor deputy ministers. It seems that back door is easier to enter - no need to work so hard at winning thousands and thousands of votes to get to the Dewan Rakyat.

Anonymous: What has G Palanivel done for the Indians to warrant making him a deputy minister? He is not fit to hold any post. Just when Indian started building their trust towards BN, now they're given another shock.

WFcoolie: MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek has decided to take the gamble with his green-horn son without even serving a full term of MP-ship to become a deputy minister! So much for a better MCA.

Wira: For those elections they cannot buy, there is still the Senate to fulfill every pretender's dream.

All in the game: It doesn't not look like a reshuffle to create a dynamic, vibrant, forward-thinking, progressive, no-nonsense, globally-aware strategic administrative team. It is just a rehabilitation programme for political rejects who cannot even command electoral approval.

Call me Jibby: What's with the two new second deputy ministers? Our government cabinet has grown? In the midst of bad economy and subsidies are slowly removed, the size of the cabinet should be trimmed down.

Ministers, deputy ministers and ministry secretaries are enjoying good pay, special allowance, perks, etc. Removing subsidies just to add more cabinet members?

Lim Chong Leong: So, after all the wheeling and dealing, more posts are created for the coalition members to pacify them. The cabinet has grown even fatter now, in the midst of our government imposing an austerity drive on its people.

That is PM Najib Abdul Razak's policy. He can't bite the bullet to implement bold reform measures from the top, like anti-corruption against Umno warlords, but he lets us swallow whole the garbage that he dishes out to us.

Dood: Poor guy (Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin). I hope he realises by now that he has been slighted and insulted not once, but twice.

Najib downplays Malay opposition to NEM

Lim Chong Leong: Like his 1Malaysia slogan, Najib's New Economic Model until now still remains undefined. Perkasa coughs, and he wrinkles up.

In the meantime, the whole nation is still suffering the racist distribution and control such that no foreigner wants to invest in us. His speech on June 10 (on NEM and 10 th Malaysian Plan) will all be wishy-washy rhetoric again.

Yuvan: Najib, as prime minister, is answerable to all Malaysians. Merely downplaying and making some 'flip-flop' statements on Perkasa and its Malay Consultative Council's rejection of the proposed NEM does not appear compatible with his '1Malaysia' propaganda.

Najib should take a clear stand on Perkasa's racist and lopsided views and opinions. He should tell Perkasa that he is responsible for all Malaysians and tell the Malay NGOs in no uncertain terms that his government does not support Perkasa's opinions.

The government should also ensure that its ministers and top-ranking officials do not attend Perkasa's functions or activities, lest the government be seen to be in cahoots with Perkasa's objectives and activities.

DAP to take sports betting to Parliament

Norman Fernandez: What hypocrisy, Pakatan Rakyat. Why not be honest and say that the opposition to sports betting licence is because it was given to Vincent Tan, a long-time beneficiary (and maybe benefactor) of BN and not for any moral or ethical reason.

Now that Pakatan, and especially DAP, has taken the moral high ground, it should also support PAS to ban alcohol and liquor from being sold in convenience shops and also not allow massage parlours to operate.

Ghkok: Gambling is a social problem - just like drugs, smoking, prostitution, etc. It must be controlled. We're sending the wrong message if we legalise sports betting. It will not reduce illegal sports betting - in fact, it will co-exist and make the problem even worse. There is already enough avenues for betting - Sports Toto, Magnum, Tanjung, race course and lottery. We need to curb gambling.

Issuing the sports betting licence is sending out the message that we condone further avenues for gambling. Concerned citizens of all ethnicity and religion in Malaysia are opposed to the Ascot Sports licencing.

We support Pakatan's stand on this, but we disagree with people who cast this issue as a Muslim vs non-Muslim issue, because it's not. It is an issue of those who are pro-gambling vs those who are anti-gambling, regardless of religion (or non-religion).

For those who try to argue as if all non-Muslims are pro-gambling, it is important to note that gambling is illegal in China (except Macau). Despite that, illegal gambling is widespread and it is leading to increasing social problems . Therefore, Pakatan is definitely doing the right thing by curbing this social problem before it gets critical.

Arab Melayu: Three cheers for BN - forget ‘rakyat didahulukan', ‘kepimpinan melalui teladan'. I, for one, will not vote for any organisation/party that promotes ‘mungkar' (bad deeds) and rejects ‘maarof' (good deeds).

I am a practising down-to-earth Muslim and I am sure any practising Christians/Catholics, Hindus, Buddhists, etc, will reject and continue to reject ‘mungkar'.
