CLINIC is partnering with the Removal Defense Corps (RDC) to offer a training on current asylum law and procedure topics. We will briefly take you through basic asylum law concepts while focusing on how to establish a nexus to the Particular Social Group (PSG) protected ground. We will discuss creative defensive strategies in formulating PSGs and cover how to craft a PSG for gender, family, and gang violence claims. The potential impact of recent case law such as Matter of A-B- and Matter of L-E-A- on establishing asylum eligibility will be analyzed. We will also include a discussion on local trends and what we're commonly seeing in Los Angeles immigration courts.
Juliana Garcia, associate attorney at Alami Law Firm who specializes in Central American asylum cases, will join the training as a co-presenter.
