Marriage Quotes

Are you married? Here's a collection of marriage quotes to inspire you on your journey in creating a lasting and blissful marriage.

I once heard someone said that choosing the right man to marry is probably a woman's biggest decision in her life. Do you agree with this statement? Doesn't the same go for the men as well, as the woman he marries will have a big influence in all aspects of his life?

One of my favorite love songs is "Love Me" sang by Colin Raye. The lyrics of the song still touches me deeply till this day. It speaks of an unbreakable love bond that stretched for many decades, that even death couldn't diminish the sacred vow the couple shared...

Most people went into a marriage half hoping for a lifetime of love with that one person and half fearing that the marriage won't work out in the end.

Well, there's more than enough reasons that could be cited for a marriage that has gone sourly wrong. Yet, is it possible that if we just commit ourselves to making the marriage work through all the ups and downs of life, that somehow we would be able to sustain a long and loving marriage? Instead of letting our fears get to us, can we focus more on making the marriage works and turning it into a success?

Instead of wanting to be right all the times and expecting our loved one to fit into our expectations, can we love that person enough to see that being right and winning aren't the ultimate goals in a relationship?

Can we put aside our egos and see that it's more important to make our loved one feel valued and loved rather than dominating over him/her?

Can we see that there's a special reason why you were brought together in a marriage in the first place and that your spouse is already special in his/her own way?

May you find strength, inspiration and love from these marriage quotes!

A good marriage is the union of two good forgivers.
-- Ruth Bell Graham

A great marriage is not when the 'perfect couple' come together. It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.
-- Dave Meurer

As for his secret to staying married: "My wife tells me that if I ever decide to leave, she is coming with me."
-- Jon BonJovi

But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.
Love one another but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
-- Kahlil Gibran

Chains do not hold a marriage together. It is threads, hundreds of tiny threads which sew people together through the years.
-- Simone Signoret

Happy marriages begin when we marry the ones we love, and they blossom when we love the ones we marry.
-- Tom Mullen

I have no way of knowing whether or not you married the wrong person, but I do know that many people have a lot of wrong ideas about marriage and what it takes to make that marriage happy and successful. I'll be the first to admit that it's possible that you did marry the wrong person. However, if you treat the wrong person like the right person, you could well end up having married the right person after all. On the other hand, if you marry the right person, and treat that person wrong, you certainly will have ended up marrying the wrong person. I also know that it is far more important to be the right kind of person than it is to marry the right person. In short, whether you married the right or wrong person is primarily up to you.
-- Zig Ziglar

I think a man and a woman should choose each other for life, for the simple reason that a long life with all its accidents is barely enough time for a man and a woman to understand each other and. . . to understand - is to love.
-- William Butler Yeats

In marriage, each partner is to be an encourager rather than a critic, a forgiver rather than a collector of hurts, an enabler rather than a reformer.
-- H. Norman Wright and Gary J. Oliver

Love seems the swiftest but it is the slowest of all growths. No man or woman really knows what perfect love is until they have been married a quarter of a century.
-- Mark Twain

Marriage isn't supposed to make you happy - and satisfied. It's your job to make your marriage happy - and satisfying. Same goes for sex. It isn't supposed to make you passionate and "hot". It's up to you to make it passionate and "hot" - and intimate.
-- Diane Sollee

Motto for the bride and groom:
We are a work in progress with a lifetime contract.
-- Phyllis Koss

New love is the brightest, and long love is the greatest, but revived love is the tenderest thing known on earth.
-- Thomas Hardy

One of the great illusions of our time is that love is self-sustaining. It is not. Love must be fed and nurtured, constantly renewed. That demands ingenuity and consideration, but first and foremost, it demands time.
-- David Mace

Our wedding was many years ago. The celebration continues to this day.
-- Gene Perret

People think they have to find their soulmate to have a good marriage. You're not going to "find" your soulmate. Anyone you meet already has soulmates. Their mother. Their father. Their lifelong friends. You get married, and after 20 years of loving, bearing and raising children, meeting challenges - then you'll have "created" your soulmate.
-- Diane Sollee

The bonds of matrimony are like any other bonds - they mature slowly.
-- Peter De Vries

The more you invest in a marriage, the more valuable it becomes.
-- Amy Grant

The most important marriage skill is listening to your partner in a way that they can't possibly doubt that you love them.
-- Diane Sollee

The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother.
-- Theodore Hesburgh

The secret to having a good marriage is to understand that marriage must be total, it must be permanent, and it must be equal.
-- Frank Pittman

There is such pleasure in long-term marriage that I really would hate to be my age and not have had a long-term marriage. Remember, sustaining a pleasurable, long-term marriage takes effort, deliberateness and an intention to learn about one another. In other words, marriage is for grown-ups.
-- Cokie Roberts, From This Day Forward

Ultimately the bond of all companionship, whether in marriage or in friendship, is conversation.
-- Oscar Wilde

We all have a childhood dream that when there is love, everything goes like silk, but the reality is that marriage requires a lot of compromise.
-- Raquel Welch

What counts in making a happy marriage is not so much how compatible you are, but how you deal with incompatibility.
-- Leo Tolstoy

When asked his secret of love, being married fifty-four years to the same person, he said, "Ruth and I are happily incompatible."
-- Billy Graham

When marrying, ask yourself this question: Do you believe that you will be able to converse well with this person into your old age? Everything else in marriage is transitory.
-- Friedrich Nietzsche

You don't marry one person; you marry three:
the person you think they are,
the person they are, and
the person they are going to become
as a result of being married to you.
-- Richard Needham
