Praktiker and Bricostore lost a third of market in three years of crisis

France's Bricostore and Germany'sPraktiker DIY network, which opened the first large constructionsand DIY supplies stores almost ten years ago, reached a cumulatedmarket share of 34.4% in 2010, down from 62.7% in 2007, accordingto ZF analysis.

In 2007, the DIY market taken intoaccount in ZF's analysis stood at EUR700 million, while in 2010 ithad neared EUR1 billion. The analysis did not include buildingmaterials distribution (Arabesque and Ambient) or the smallnetworks operating in various parts of the country.

Bricostore and Praktiker have beenin recent years aggressively "attacked" by the new entrants on themarket, such as BauMax, Hornbach and OBI, which reached overallmarket share of around 27% during the same interval, starting froman 8.7% level.

Moreover, Dedeman domesticnetwork, the new leader of the market, also widened its share byaround 10% in the 2007-2010 period, to 37%, amid record sales forthis market, of EUR360 million last year.
