295nathan12121: It does not fit to be called Omaske and not worth the high price

My friends and I actually were comparing few Japanese Omakase restuarant. Many other restuarants were charging about Rm380 to RM500. We thought we wanted something better and we saw Taka was charging RM900 and thought to give it a go. We were willing tonpay premium price for premium experience. Thinking it was located at st regis hotel sounds good. As we reached, we were welcomed by a very quiet entrance in the resturant. Very bad ambience. As we entered the sushi counter. We were only group with many empty seats. The meal was for 2 hours as mentioned in the booking. So we ordered a bottle of 750ml Sake. Just no long after seating the first dish was served. We though it was ok. But the next item came just less than 5 mins and also the subsequent items. We started eating desert before 45mins and our sake was still more than half full. Very disappointing. It was very quiet in the room. The chefs did not interact with us at all. It is just like eating at a normal sushi bar. As posted by other travellers in other post, you can see that the sushi is very basic. Not fit to be called Omakase. The Otooro tuna supposed to be the best sushi came out non fatty at all. When asked the chef why the otooro is totally not fatty. He answered, the fatty one we usually seen are the farm fish. we were paying such a premium price. You cannot even get us a nice otooro even if it is wild caught ones? I think many people realized this Omakase is not worth to return and thats why they were almost empty on saturday night when other Omakase we all fully booked. My opinion is it is totally not worth RM900. We thought we could hang out there for quite awhile. Ended up leaving with our sake still half full. It was just like a normal sushi bar experience with expensive price tag on it.

AFoodie69: Something’s up with the vibe/mood here. Think twice.

Delicious, and high quality. But …. Minor complaint that there was a large fish scale in my Otoro sushi, it’s kinda fine but did take away from what’s an amazing ‘bite’ of food. These things happen, but the chef didn’t seem to care, just shrugged, and dismissed it. Would have been nice to remake it. Also, the chef wasn’t around as we left, as is normally the case as we thank the chef when leaving a Japanese restaurant. He just vanished, no goodbyes or thank you. Seemed a little strange, and not in keeping with our experience in Japan and at other high end Sushi restaurants. A little like he didn’t quite appreciate us eating in his restaurant. On reflexion, he was pretty stand-off the entire meal, almost like he didn’t want to be there. Overall, nice food but I feel a bit down about the experience. Disappointing when this place is aiming high with prices and service. I would not recommend. Somethings off with the mood here.

Really difficult to know where to start...everything is soooo good! The highlights were the tongue and the steak sandwich but everything else was mouth watering good as well. We went on a second night and had more sashimi with out beef and apparently it had all been flown in from Japan that morning. Really one of the highlights of the KL dining scene.

N3789EKrobm: Disappointing

My wife and I attended the 8.30pm sitting on Sat 3rd Oct. The sushi counter is separated from the sushi chefs by a spotlessly clean clear perspex screen. Whilst obviously necessary in this day of Covid-19, it does add to the formality of the dining experience, making communication with the chefs difficult, and requiring my wife and I to sit well apart so as to access the food delivery hatches. We were the only diners in the restaurant. We selected the RM900 omakase menu, and my wife selected the additional RM250 “upgrade” on the grilled dish from fish to wagyu beef. Obviously this is not cheap, but we were prepared to pay for the best. The trouble was it wasn’t the best. Some of the courses were sublime - the fish egg appetiser, the grilled scallop, the octopus. The grilled nori used to wrap certain pieces of sushi was excellent. Some were average - the uni, the ikura, the chopped toro. But some were poor. The toro - which should be a, if not the, highlight, was sinewy requiring my wife to request a napkin to spit it out; the ebi was tasteless indicating that the shrimp was either old or had been over-washed, and the grilled fish was dry. Moreover the wagyu beef, whilst having the necessary tenderness and butteriness, lacked taste, although to be fair, this is a common issue I have with such cuts. Service was excellent throughout, but the shortcomings of the dinner led both my wife and I to consider this was not worth the expense.
