The constitution of the United States established a government based on federalism or a power-share between the national, state and local government. The intent was to differentiate us from countries with a centralized government, like England. The relationship between federal and state governments continues to evolve. More recently there’s been a push for more states rights by the Tea Party and some conservatives, like the governors of Virginia and Texas.
