# RIP
I met Benoit Mandelbrot in 1990. I went to a lecture he gave and took along a print-out of his eponymous set. It was a pretty crude dot-matrix job (a screendump of MODE 2 on a BBC Micro, eighties spods) so I apologised for the quality of the rendering. "That's all right," he said, "it looks much better than the first time I saw it." RIP.

# To reiterate
Sad news indeed, excellent tribute though!
I've long thought about having some sort of fancy techno gravestone with solar powered colour LCD auto exploring forever Mandelbrot set on it... now they do apparantly make video playback tombstones so it may actually be possible... beats a tacky movie of me grinning and waving at passers by anyday :)
