Description

Factoring Quadratics with a leading coefficient greater than 1 around Christmas time (Winter Break)? Add a little holiday spice to factoring practice with this Christmas-themed math activity.

Students factor 26 trinomials where a>1. Of course students would check the accuracy of their factoring by multiplying the binomials, but they will save grading time (on winter break!) for the teacher by using their answers to reveal hidden messages on one Christmas-themed greeting card.

Along with the worksheet of 26 problems, find 8 greeting card messages in this product. Two of the 8 unashamedly use Christmas in the message; another is a joke about X-mas. No I’m not telling; it is that good. These messages are grouped together so that one could choose not to use them. Also find one very generic message for any student whom traditionally celebrates other holidays (or doesn’t celebrate). I enjoy hand selecting the recipient of the message, matching the message to the student’s personality.

Remember when the students turn in their work they are essentially sending the teacher the Christmas card. “Oh what thoughtful students I have!”

Teacher tested; student approved.
