Brighton-based D&B duo The Prototypes first made a splash back in 2010 with a much-played debut 12" on Infrared, going on to deliver a series of similarly hyped singles for Shogun Audio and Viper. Here, they offer up their debut album, City of Gold, a collection that puts grandiose, festival-friendly rhythms, big builds and EDM synths at the centre of the action. There's plenty of variety even within this formula - contrast, for example, the booming tech-step madness of "Pale Blue Dot", the piano-heavy rush of "Don't Let Me Go", and the title track's trance-like builds - making City of Gold a hugely vibrant debut album.
