Will Robert Rodriguez Direct Deadpool?

Or is this another fantastic rumor?

Is this going to happen or not? Over the past couple of months, we've heard quite a bit of news about whether or not Robert Rodriguez, the director of the Spy Kids films and the upcoming Machete film, will be directing the Deadpool film. During San Diego Comic Con, Rodriguez was interviewed by MTV and he mentioned that he actually had the script in hand.

"They sent me a script to read, [but] I've been really swamped with this other stuff... I've not decided whether ... anything I do would be after 'Spy Kids' ... So whether or not I would help develop or not is the question right now..."

With Rodriguez's busy schedule, it's hard to figure out when he'll have actual time to do this film. But the biggest question on everyone's minds is whether or not this film will actually be good. The character Deadpool was in X-Men: Wolverine Origins, but he received less than fantastic reviews simply because the character differed from his comic book counter-part a little too much. Rodriguez, who has a copy of an early first draft, thinks the film could be good.

"It was really good... It wasn't supposed to be sent out, it was one of those early drafts, they were probably like 'Robert just finished 'Predators,' let's see what he thinks at this early stage' ... I got an early sneak peek at it."

Aside from that, Rodriguez would like to have Reynolds in the film, and also would like to see the character break the fourth wall as Deadpool tends to do in the comic books quite a bit. However, nothing is for sure yet. Should Rodriguez direct the film?
