Inform. Inspire. Connect. Happy September, Friends. We hope all of our extended DPMR family is staying healthy and safe during these trying times - our hearts go out to everyone impacted by the fires and the pandemic. Please connect with us on Facebook and Strava, and reach out if you ever need anything.
In the meantime, we've got some fun and inspiring content for you this month: Finally, congrats to everyone who participated in our July Virtual Challenge! Collectively we managed many hundreds of runs, and thousands of miles, raising $500 each for the Tahoe Rim Trail Association
and Truckee Donner Land Trust. Extra kudos to Eva Salyer, who completed 44 runs, and Stacie Riddle, who ran 443 miles during the month. Watch for more challenges in the near future!
Member Highlight: Conor Drewes by Diane Frederic
A select rare one who can claim “Native to this Place”, meet Incline Village local Conor Drewes. One of DPMR’s young guns, Conor ran his first 100-miler at age 20, has finished our own Castle Peak 100K twice and last month placed first overall at the Marlette 50K. A fan of French Toast, neon shirts and daily 10-milers, he’s the guy you’ll also want on your Trivia team if obscure military history is in the lineup.
DPMR’s own Chris Cloyd hosted a virtual conversation with Helen Pelster and Adam Kimble, two club members who both set FKTs (Fastest Known Time) on the Tahoe Rim Trail in July 2020.
Watch this wonderful and inspiring chat as we celebrate their accomplishments and hear them share their experiences, detail their planning and run execution, and answer questions.
As I stood at the Tahoe City
transit center waiting for the final minutes to tick down before 6am arrived on Friday, July 17th, I thought about how I felt the weekend prior. My friend Logan was attempting to break the same record just a week before me, and as I was out pacing him for a short section, I thought to myself I’m glad it’s not me going for the record today! I had the exact date of my Tahoe Rim Trail FKT attempt in my mind for months, and I wasn’t allowing myself to be mentally ready to go until I arrived at the Tahoe City transit center bridge, ready to embark on 171 miles of madness.
You have probably seen micro-greens topping your dishes in restaurants and even lining the grocery shelves. Chefs love them for their punchy flavors, dash of texture, and a nice color to finish a dish. Is it worth the splurge on those little vegetables?
We’re taking some space in our September 2020 “Run of the Month” post to congratulate two of our DPMR members on setting new FKTs on our very own TRT this summer! Helen Pelster improved on the previous
unsupported female FKT (and inspired a new FKT days later!) and Adam Kimble bested Kilian Jornet’s longstanding supported FKT. I asked them about their favorite TRT sections during their record-setting runs in a recent podcast interview and detailed their favorite segments for this month’s “Run of the Month” post!
