Peeved at the EC's restrictions on the use of money power, Karunanidhi said the actions and rules brought in by it have created a situation of undeclared emergency.

He also took a dig at Tamil actor Vijaykanth, who allegedly slapped his party colleague, saying he might even beat up the speaker of the assembly if elected.

Meanwhile, Karunanidhi's son M.K. Alagiri also complained about the withdrawal of police security from his Madurai residence. He said the EC and Madurai Police commissioner would be held responsible if his life or property was endangered.

Alagiri also suggested that these were mere ploys to stop his party alliance from winning and that he has already sent telegrams to the President, prime minister, home minister and the Lok Sabha speaker over the issue.
